Evangelist of Everlasting Happiness

The Evangelist of Everlasting Happiness is the Constellation created when Sacrifice, one of Lefanta Aegim's five sword fragments, developed into an independent power. The Evangelist is the blood-covered child who rules Me and Our Scapegoat. The dancing children seen in Raviel Ivansia's world and in the Evangelist's own Apocalypse are her apostles, not alternate bodies or names for the Constellation herself.

Biography

An invasion through borrowed apostles

The Evangelist first reaches Raviel Ivansia's unprotected world by sending child-shaped apostles alongside the forces of two other Constellations. Their song drives listeners into their happiest memories and incapacitates most of the wedding's defenders, but Kim Gong-ja is happiest in the present beside Raviel and therefore remains awake. The apostles have no direct combat skill, so Gong-ja and the Heretic Questioner reach them by teleportation and kill the manifestation. That loss does not kill the distant Evangelist; it instead gives Gong-ja the information needed to recognize and challenge her home world. (Chapters 104, 111, and 113–116)

A utopia built on one victim

When Gong-ja's party enters Me and Our Scapegoat, the Evangelist recognizes him as the leader who absorbed her sister swords and immediately attacks with an immense host of singing apostles. Her “utopia” eliminates hunger, pain, and unhappy memories for those apostles by converting the continuous agony of one innocent child into power for the entire world. She defends this arrangement as one deliberate sin in place of the countless unaddressed sufferings she witnessed while following Lefanta Aegim. Gong-ja answers that he can preserve the apostles without a scapegoat by killing and resummoning them through Hundred Ghosts Reincarnation. Once force and argument both turn against her, the Evangelist yields; Gong-ja breaks the returned Sacrifice Sword, the Guardian Goddess absorbs the fragment, and the apostles dissolve with it. Appearance

The Evangelist manifests as a small child whose entire body is covered in dark red blood. Her sword form is likewise blood-stained and coagulates from the liquid shed when her humanoid manifestation dissolves. Her apostles are a separate multitude of young children who hold hands, sing, and dance in circles; their repeated form visually expresses the painless, unchanging happiness of the world she constructed.

Abilities and skills

Sacrifice

As the sentient Sacrifice Sword, the Evangelist can translate one person's agony into happiness for others. The resulting benefit grows when the sufferer is especially innocent, noble, or pure. She uses this law at world scale, sustaining food, machines, medicine, freedom from hunger, and the emotional contentment of her apostles through a single victim's prolonged screams. The arrangement is efficient within its own rule, but it depends entirely on compulsory suffering and removes the beneficiaries' freedom to remember pain or choose a different life. (Chapters 122–123 and 394)

Apostles and forced happiness

The Evangelist can create and direct a vast number of child-shaped apostles. Their synchronized song is a psychological attack that forces listeners into their happiest memories and puts them to sleep; ordinary aura offers insufficient resistance, while specialized mental immunity works. The apostles can overwhelm a battlefield by scale, but they have little physical fighting ability and their song cannot affect memoryless skeletons. They are also exceptionally vulnerable to the suffering embodied by the Infernal Heavens Demonic Art, especially the Sword of Starvation. (Chapters 114–116 and 121–123)

As the reigning Constellation of an A-class Apocalypse, the Evangelist detects invaders, communicates directly into their minds, and mobilizes her world against them. Her authority does not make her indestructible: when she concedes, she returns to sword form and can be broken and absorbed by the reunited Guardian Goddess. (Chapters 121–123)

Relationships

• Kim Gong-ja: The invader she identifies as the leader of the sister swords. His alternative to her sacrificial utopia defeats both her army and the argument with which she justified it.
• Raviel Ivansia: The ruler of the world targeted by the Evangelist's expeditionary apostle. Raviel's wedding becomes the setting in which Gong-ja first learns how the happiness song works.
• Shiny: The reunited Guardian Goddess who recognizes the Evangelist as the fourth sister sword and ultimately absorbs Sacrifice after Gong-ja breaks her sword form.
• Lefanta Aegim: Her original master. The Evangelist remains loyal to his campaign against Constellations even after becoming a Constellation herself and longs to meet him again as she yields.
