Fang
Fang, known in life as Kargalgan, is the high-orc shaman who rules the A-rank dungeon beneath the Hunters Guild raid. After Jinwoo Sung defeats and extracts him, Fang becomes the Shadow Army’s principal mage commander, combining mass enchantments, debilitating curses, and enormous firepower.
Biography
High-orc shaman
Kargalgan waits behind the high-orc army encountered by the Hunters Guild strike team. Rather than reveal the dungeon’s true power immediately, he conceals it behind a barrier, allows his warriors to escort the hunters deeper, and traps the party where retreat is impossible. His plan is ceremonial as well as tactical: he wants the frightened humans to understand the gulf between them before he kills them. (Chapters 25–26)
When Jinwoo intervenes, Kargalgan attempts to reduce him with five simultaneous curses: impeded movement, blindness, high fever, extreme pain, and sleep. The System’s protection removes each effect, turning what should have been an inescapable magical execution into proof that his opponent follows different rules. Kargalgan then stacks songs of rage, strength, and gigantism on himself, growing into a massive combat form while raising his speed, stamina, and confidence. (Chapter 26)
His strongest living attack is black-red dragon fire, a torrent powerful enough to erase large numbers of shadow soldiers. He also maintains defensive magic around his body, but Jinwoo breaks through after waiting for Kargalgan to spend power and kills him in front of the high-orc army. Jinwoo extracts the shaman’s shadow and names him Fang after his prominent teeth. The former dungeon boss immediately becomes one of the army’s elite knights. (Chapter 26)
Shadow mage and the Sphere of Avarice
Fang’s value increases when Jinwoo gives him the Sphere of Avarice, an artifact that doubles the user’s magic damage. In the Demon Castle, Fang grows to roughly twice his living size and incinerates demons that are naturally resistant to fire. The burst proves the artifact’s compatibility with his magic, but it also exposes a limit: prolonged maximum output consumes mana rapidly enough to make him shrink and require recovery. (Chapter 28)
As the Shadow Army levels, Fang becomes a stable commander rather than a single-use siege weapon. He leads high-orc soldiers and mage units, enlarges allies, and supplies ranged destruction while Igris and later Beru handle other parts of the battlefield. On Jeju Island he carefully angles his enhanced fire away from the Korean hunters, uses gigantism with the Sphere, and burns masses of ants without sacrificing the people Jinwoo ordered the army to protect. (Chapters 30, 35)
Fang continues serving in raids that demand large-area magic: the Knights Guild dungeon, Japan’s giant crisis, and the wars that follow the appearance of the Monarchs. His spells provide army-wide support and wide-area pressure rather than the individualized dueling style of Jinwoo’s swordsmen. After Jinwoo fully inherits the Shadow Monarch’s power, Fang rises to general grade and takes formal command of the army’s mages. (Chapters 41, 51, 60–67)
War beyond the restored timeline
Fang remains part of Jinwoo’s army when the Cup of Reincarnation restores the world, because shadows carried inside the Shadow Monarch persist across the reversal unless a living past version creates a contradiction. In the decades of war that follow, Fang’s authority reflects Jinwoo’s trust: he commands the spellcasters even when ancient beings such as dragons have joined the army. (Chapters 75–76)
During the later Titan incident, Fang coordinates the mage corps in casting a spell designed to contain the battle’s impact and protect the human world. His personal account also reveals a domestic side to the army. He takes pride in a new robe and in the Sphere, which craftsmen have mounted on a staff for him, sleeps when off duty, and tells stories to subordinates. The boastful shaman has not become modest, but his pride is now tied to service, rank, and the care of his equipment rather than domination of captives. (Chapter 76)
Appearance and personality
Fang is a large high orc with conspicuous fangs and the heavy presence of a dungeon boss. His magic can enlarge him from an already imposing body into a giant roughly ten meters tall in life and even larger when the Sphere amplifies his shadow form. As a shadow, his body is composed of dark magical energy and can regenerate through Jinwoo’s mana. He favors elaborate mage robes, and later carries the Sphere mounted on a staff. (Chapters 26, 28, 76)
In life, Kargalgan is theatrical, arrogant, and cruel. He hides his strength to stage the hunters’ despair, boasts about unavoidable curses, and turns combat into a performance of superiority. As Fang, that dramatic temperament survives without the old disloyalty. He takes pleasure in overwhelming displays, rank, clothing, and being trusted with the mage army, but obeys Jinwoo’s orders and exercises enough control to protect allies inside his attack area. His leisure habits—sleeping and telling stories—make him one of the army’s more socially expressive commanders. (Chapters 26, 35, 76)
Abilities, skills, and rank
Shamanic songs and enchantments
Fang uses magical songs to alter physical and combat properties. The songs of rage and strength increase aggression and power, while the song of giants enlarges either Fang or selected allied units. He can stack multiple enhancements, producing a sharp rise in size, speed, stamina, and destructive potential. As a shadow commander, he applies these effects to formations as well as himself. (Chapters 26, 28, 35)
Curses
Kargalgan can impose several debilitating conditions at once: impeded movement, blindness, high fever, extreme pain, and magical sleep. He presents the combination as unavoidable for ordinary intruders. Jinwoo’s System-granted immunity purifies the curses instantly, establishing that the technique can be negated by exceptional status resistance or automatic cleansing. (Chapter 26)
Dragon fire
Fang releases black-red fire in the form of a dragon-like torrent. In life it destroys numerous shadow soldiers; with the Sphere of Avarice it can vaporize fire-resistant demons and erase broad groups of enemies. He can aim the flame with enough care to attack ants surrounding human hunters without burning the people among them. (Chapters 26, 28, 35)
Barriers and defensive magic
Kargalgan conceals the high-orc dungeon’s true conditions behind magical barriers and protects his enlarged body with a shield. The living shield delays Jinwoo but cannot withstand repeated attacks from an opponent with superior physical power. Later, as mage commander, Fang contributes protective and containment magic at army scale. (Chapters 25–26, 76)
Shadow regeneration and command
As a shadow soldier, Fang can be restored through Jinwoo’s mana after suffering damage and can communicate through the army’s command structure. His progression from elite knight to general reflects both accumulated power and leadership over high-orc and mixed mage units. This state also creates dependency: before Jinwoo’s complete awakening, heavy magical output draws on a finite shared mana economy. (Chapters 26, 28, 67, 76)
Sphere-enhanced output and cost
The Sphere of Avarice doubles magical damage and lets Fang attain his most spectacular scale. It does not remove expenditure. His first Demon Castle demonstration drains him quickly, forcing his enlarged body to contract, so sustained fire must be balanced against available mana. (Chapter 28)

Relationships
- Jinwoo Sung: Jinwoo defeats Kargalgan, gives the extracted shadow a new name, entrusts him with the Sphere, and eventually appoints him commander of all mage soldiers. Fang’s later pride is grounded in that continuing trust. (Chapters 26, 28, 67, 76)
- Igris: Igris and Fang serve as early elite commanders with complementary roles: Igris leads disciplined melee attacks, while Fang supplies enchantments and destructive magic. (Chapters 28, 30, 41)
- Beru: Beru’s arrival pushes the army to a higher combat tier, but Fang retains a distinct command niche as chief mage. They fight together in Jeju, Japan, and the Monarch war. (Chapters 35, 51, 64)
- High-orc and mage soldiers: Kargalgan once rules the high orcs as a dungeon boss; Fang later leads their shadows and eventually all spellcasting units. He shares stories, receives crafted equipment, and passes an older robe to another mage, suggesting a hierarchy with its own communal life. (Chapters 26, 76)
Items
- Sphere of Avarice: Jinwoo gives Fang the magic-amplifying sphere because it matches his role better than Jinwoo’s own fighting style. It doubles Fang’s magical damage and becomes his defining focus; craftsmen later mount it on a staff for easier use. (Chapters 28, 76)
- Mage robes: Fang takes conspicuous pride in his robes after becoming commander of the mage corps. He later gives an older robe to a subordinate when receiving a new one, making the clothing a marker of rank and personality rather than a separately named artifact. (Chapter 76)
