Sphere of Avarice

History

The Sphere of Avarice drops after Jinwoo Sung defeats the archdemon Vulcan in the Demon’s Castle. It appears as a bloodred orb about the size of a billiard ball and is described as having been formed from Vulcan’s solidified blood.

Jinwoo initially considers selling the A-rank magic tool because his own offensive skills do not directly inflict magic damage. After an appraisal confirms the scale of its amplification, however, he recognizes that the sphere is too valuable to discard. He tests it with a magic-using shadow and later entrusts it to Fang, whose destructive fire magic makes full use of the item.

Fang employs the sphere in the Demon’s Castle and on Jeju Island, where his amplified flames destroy ant eggs throughout the nest. It remains part of his equipment in later battles, including the clashes with the Iron Body Monarch and the Dragon King. In the rewritten world, dwarven craftsmen incorporate the orb into the top of Fang’s staff.

Properties and use

The sphere’s effect, Appetite for Destruction, increases magic damage by 100 percent. In practical terms, it doubles the power of the wielder’s offensive spells. It does not provide the same advantage to purely physical attacks, which is why Jinwoo assigns it to a shadow mage rather than using it as one of his own weapons.

In Fang’s hands, the orb magnifies already formidable fire magic into attacks suited to clearing large areas and confronting Monarch-level enemies. It also supports his large-scale incantations, including magic used to interfere with enemy communication. Its focused purpose and extreme amplification make it more useful to Jinwoo as shadow-army equipment than as a saleable treasure.
