Jiang Yuan

Jiang Yuan is the Dark Citadel’s necromancer in the Great Adept Tournament. Early intelligence identifies him as a Seventh Level competitor enhanced through genetics, but that estimate is part of his concealment. His semifinal reveals a Ninth Level ninth-rank Adept, an inheritor of Judas’s malefic power, and the Citadel’s intended future successor.

Biography

The concealed tournament ace

Jiang Yuan advances through the tournament behind a cloak of shadow and a deliberately misleading assessment of his strength. He uses curses and necromancy to disable opponents while the Dark Citadel preserves him as one of its hidden advantages. Successive matches expose greater reserves, culminating in a great summoned creature and a semifinal place opposite the Pharmacist. (Chapters 429–469)

Revelation and defeat

Against the Pharmacist, Jiang Yuan reveals that the earlier shadowy Judas combatant and the necromancer are one person. He summons a blood-beast and the Great Malefic Wyrm, shifts between ranged sorcery and close attack, and finally exposes his peak Ninth Level cultivation. The Pharmacist’s Heavenly Lightning and sword power directly counter his malefic Discipline; after her attack destroys the wyrm, Jiang Yuan flees to the arena edge and surrenders in terror. He later appears alive alongside Lucifer and other Dark Citadel representatives, but the corpus does not establish his fate after the conclave. (Chapters 470–487)

Appearance and personality

Jiang Yuan normally hides beneath a cloak of shadow that leaves little visible beyond cold, dead eyes, a pale face, and a gnarled finger extended for spellwork. His power produces a caustic black aura. When the Pharmacist burns away his concealment and clothing, he is revealed as rail-thin and bony; fear then replaces his earlier controlled expression. He is secretive, disciplined, and willing to let enemies underestimate him. His combat choices are pragmatic: he changes tactics against a known counter, conceals his position, and tries to exploit openings rather than protect an image of honorable combat. His surrender also shows a hard survival limit to that composure when faced with power he believes can erase him. (Chapters 469–471)

Curses and necromancy

Jiang Yuan uses dark curses that inflict weakness, sluggishness, poison, and loss of control. His Lich-associated power supports shadow concealment, black corrosive energy, and both close- and long-range pressure. Reports that place him at Seventh Level are unreliable; his revealed cultivation is Ninth Level ninth rank. (Chapters 429–470)

Summoning and Judas inheritance

Through chants, a spreading hexagram, and blood-linked constructs, he can summon demonic beasts and open the way for the Great Malefic Wyrm. His Judas inheritance is described as the birthright of betrayal and lets him combine a necromancer’s ranged techniques with unexpectedly dangerous close combat. These powers require setup and are vulnerable to a direct spiritual and elemental counter: the Pharmacist’s yang-aligned Heavenly Lightning disperses his darkness, while her sword destroys the wyrm and breaks his resistance. Relationships

• Pharmacist: Jiang Yuan’s semifinal opponent and decisive counter. She recognizes his hidden identity, destroys his strongest summon, and forces his surrender.
• Lucifer: A senior Dark Citadel figure with whom Jiang Yuan appears after the tournament, marking the necromancer’s place in the faction’s delegation.
• Satan: Leader of the Dark Citadel and the authority whose future succession Jiang Yuan is being prepared to inherit.
