Bing Yu
Bing Yu, known as Absolute Zero, is an unaffiliated Western ice adept with exceptional Paragon potential. Her control of elemental cold carries her to the Great Adept Tournament's round-robin quarterfinals despite having no support from either Western Citadel.
Biography
Great Adept Tournament
Bing Yu enters the quarterfinal group with Titan, Ji Mu, and the masked Zeus as a ninth-level seventh-ranked fighter who began perceiving protogenia unusually early. Against Lan Jue, she controls the arena with mist, ice constructs, and temperatures approaching negative 180 degrees, but unwittingly helps him compress his Core. His deeper elemental understanding and lightning's favorable nature break her essence field and give him victory. Bing accepts that the loss was not a fluke and becomes more curious than resentful. Titan defeats her in the next round, and Ji Mu wins their final match after both are already eliminated; she remains alive, with no later role shown. (Chapters 432–454, 469)
Appearance and personality
Bing Yu is an attractive woman around Lan Jue's age with a strong face and a composed, distant manner. She enters her match without acknowledging him and fights with confidence, but Titan's earlier display has visibly shaken her gait. After losing to Zeus, she responds by analyzing the difference in their elemental comprehension rather than offering excuses, showing that learning matters more to her than reputation alone. (Chapters 433, 440–442)
Disciplines and abilities
Essence of ice
Bing Yu commands fog, icicles, blizzards, an Ice Prison, and a long spear of condensed cold. She can merge into her mist to conceal her location, assume a crystalline ice body, and invoke the essence of ice across an entire arena. Her greatest shown field reaches roughly negative 180 degrees and suppresses movement, blood flow, and an opponent's Core. (Chapters 440–442)
Despite her title, Bing does not sustain literal absolute zero. The Terminator estimates that consistent control at that limit would require an established Paragon. Her extreme field also leaves her immobile and strained, while lightning's permeating, explosive nature and Lan Jue's deeper comprehension exploit an elemental disadvantage. (Chapters 441–442, 453)
Relationships
- Lan Jue: Bing's ice places Lan Jue under severe pressure but also helps him refine his Core. His victory teaches her that elemental understanding can overcome a difference in rank. (Chapters 440–443)
- Titan: Titan defeats Bing in her second round-robin match, though his altered condition makes the victory less overwhelming than expected. (Chapters 453–454)
- Ji Mu: Ji Mu defeats Bing after both have lost their chance to advance, closing her tournament run. (Chapter 469)
