Greedy Giant Toad

The Greedy Giant Toad is a corrupted descendant of an ancient toad clan that inhabits the chasm beneath Novice Village 49554. It is the first exceptionally high-grade beast Ling Chen defeats alone, and the encounter establishes both his extreme combat precision and the importance of studying an enemy whose raw attributes make an ordinary exchange impossible. Biography

Isrock, the New World, and the Lunar Scourge

Ling encounters the Greedy Giant Toad as a hill-sized level-ten beast with eighty thousand health and six major attack patterns. Since virtually any direct hit would kill him, he uses a Scan Scroll, targets the relatively weaker head, and repeatedly exploits the moment after its barbed tongue extends to climb onto it. The battle lasts about nine hours. When the toad falls below half health it summons smaller man-eating toads, and near death it unleashes Earth Split at the cost of its remaining defense. Ling survives these phases and kills it, earning equipment and recognition for the first defeat of a beast of its grade. (Chapters 25–30)

Heart’s Dream and the First Guild

The Greedy Giant Toad is not revived or encountered again. A Gold Lunar Chain obtained from it becomes the centerpiece of the first major player auction; Lord Fortune stresses that such chains are far rarer and more valuable than ordinary gold-grade equipment. The event turns the remains of Ling’s solitary novice-village victory into a public demonstration of his growing economic and competitive influence. (Chapter 136)

The Road South and the Fairy Realm

Ling later reviews the Celestial Slayer Insignia awarded for being the first player to kill a Celestial-grade boss. The insignia gives no attributes, but its description says it can open a sealed ancient ruin and matches the Heaven Slayer Insignia associated with the Mountain Giant. This passage concerns the reward and confirms the toad’s death rather than adding a later action by the beast. (Chapter 385)

Calamity in the East Ocean Continent

The two Slayer Insignias are used together to open the ancient ruins at One Line Sky. Ling again identifies the Celestial Slayer Insignia with his kill of the Greedy Giant Toad, showing that the novice-village battle has consequences long after the creature itself has disappeared from the story. (Chapter 487)

The Defense and Founding of Ling Tian City

After killing a Mysterious God-grade enemy, Ling compares his new God Slayer Insignia with the earlier Celestial and Heaven Slayer versions. All three have the same unusual ruin-opening description and lack ordinary bonus statistics. The Greedy Giant Toad remains only the source event for the first award; no survival, resurrection, or continuing consciousness is suggested. (Chapter 526)

Appearance and personality

The Greedy Giant Toad is a green-black creature as large as a hill, with a broad head, a vast mouth, and a long barbed tongue. Its huge body can leap more than twenty metres and lands with crushing force, while its skin and bulk provide defense far beyond the abilities of ordinary novice players. (Chapters 25–27)

It is described as greedy and corrupted, but the encounter provides no dialogue or complex motive. It attacks an intruder, uses increasingly desperate abilities as its health falls, and summons offspring or lesser toads when threatened. The text says it appears to guard something in the underground area, though it never explains what that object is or whether the creature understands its importance. (Chapters 25–30)

Abilities and powers

The Greedy Giant Toad has eighty thousand health, high physical defense, strong earth resistance, and immunity to confusion, poison, and petrification. Wind is its principal elemental weakness, and the defense of its head is lower than that of its body. Its attacks include a crushing leap, Piercing Tongue, Stone Throw, Stone Hail, Avarice Sonic Wave, and the terrain-shattering Earth Split. (Chapters 25–29)

Below half health it can call Big Man-Eating Toads into the battle. Below ten percent it can use Earth Split, a devastating last-resort attack that exhausts its earth power and reduces its defense to zero afterward. The translated grade is called “Fairy” in the initial scan and “Celestial” in later reward descriptions; these passages refer to the same defeated boss. (Chapters 26–30, 385, and 526)

Relationships

• Ling Chen: The toad treats Ling as prey or an intruder and fights him for hours. Ling studies every attack, uses its tongue to reach its vulnerable head, and kills it despite the enormous statistical disadvantage. (Chapters 25–30)
• Big Man-Eating Toads: The Greedy Giant Toad summons these smaller creatures when badly injured. Their exact biological relationship is not established, although the skill presents them as subordinate reinforcements. (Chapters 28–29)

Items

• Gold Lunar Chain: This valuable chain is obtained from the Greedy Giant Toad and later auctioned. It is a drop from the defeated beast, not an item it actively wields. (Chapters 30 and 136)
