The Road South and the Fairy Realm

Granny Witherwood warmly welcomes Ling as a prospective member of the Fairy family, yet the welcome rests on a coercive decision: she says he cannot leave and proposes that he marry Ying Xue. Believing lifelong longing would be crueler than forgetting, she authorizes Fairy Water and joins the elders’ vine attack when he refuses it.
