Daoist Tian Qing

Daoist Tian Qing is the leader of the Heaven’s Secrets Sect who reads fate, locates hidden truths, and trains Su’Er as his successor. Biography

The Road South and the Fairy Realm

Xiao Feng Chen brings Ling to Daoist Tian Qing in the hope that the Heaven’s Secrets Sect can locate several rare objects. Tian Qing agrees to help where possible, but his attempt to read Ling’s fortune leaves him sweating and visibly shaken; he says that he cannot give the result. Ling accepts the answer at the time, though later evidence shows that the diviner had seen the Fortune of Great Calamity and chosen not to disclose it. (Chapters 291–293, 721, and 825)

The Defense and Founding of Ling Tian City

As Su’Er’s teacher, Tian Qing recognizes that Heaven’s Secrets power is naturally gathering in her unusually pure mind, heart, and soul. He gives her a green record of the crisis facing her friends and reluctantly permits her intervention, while warning her not to explain the sect’s power to ordinary people. Her early effects last only two hours compared with his twenty-four, establishing both her rapid promise and the experience she has not yet gained. (Chapters 567 and 570)

The Moon God Palace and the Shura’s Return

By the time Ling reflects on their first meeting, Su’Er has succeeded Daoist Tian Qing as leader of the Heaven’s Secrets Sect. Her reading produces the same alarm he showed, confirming that his silence was not inability or empty performance. The corpus does not state that succession followed his death; it only establishes that he is no longer the serving sect leader. (Chapter 721)

The Godchild Crisis and Qi Xing

Daoist Tian Qing is not directly present during the Godchild conflict. Ling recalls his divination after later guardians independently identify the same Fortune of Great Calamity, and connects the warning to the massacres and planetary destruction that have marked his life. Tian Qing’s role in this phase is therefore retrospective confirmation of an earlier reading, not active participation in the crisis. (Chapter 825)

Appearance and personality

Daoist Tian Qing is an old man who carries a horsetail whisk and presents himself with the calm bearing of a Daoist master. The corpus gives little further physical description. His composed speech and credible reputation contrast with the involuntary sweat and changed expression produced by Ling’s fortune. (Chapters 291–293 and 567)

He is restrained, protective of secret knowledge, and cautious about the consequences of revealing it. With Su’Er he is encouraging but reluctant to expose her to danger, and he treats her natural affinity as a responsibility that requires discipline rather than as a reason for display. (Chapters 567 and 570)

Abilities and powers

The Heaven’s Secrets art lets Tian Qing investigate fate, locate people or things within limits, and record distant events for another person to see. His divination can maintain an effect for roughly twenty-four hours where Su’Er’s early version lasts two, but some requests remain impossible and looking into a great fate visibly taxes him. (Chapters 292–293, 299, 567, and 570)

His power is not ordinary omniscience. Tian Qing declines or fails to locate certain targets, conceals dangerous findings, and warns that secular people may neither understand nor safely respond to the sect’s abilities. No direct combat technique or formal power grade is assigned to him. (Chapters 293, 299, 570, and 721)

Relationships

• Su’Er: Tian Qing becomes Su’Er’s teacher, recognizes her exceptional purity, and guides her use of Heaven’s Secrets power. She later succeeds him as sect leader and independently confirms the fortune he once withheld from Ling. (Chapters 358, 567–570, and 721)
• Ling Chen: Ling seeks Tian Qing’s help locating rare targets and becomes the subject of a disturbing divination. Tian Qing does not reveal the Fortune of Great Calamity, leaving Ling to understand the warning only through later events. (Chapters 291–293, 721, and 825)
• Xiao Feng Chen: Xiao Feng Chen arranges their meeting and presents Tian Qing as the expert capable of consulting heaven’s secrets. Their association connects the Heaven’s Secrets Sect to the other dispersed sect traditions. (Chapters 291–292 and 358)
