Bloodwave

Bloodwave is the oldest surviving Saint of the fallen House of Night, a maritime champion whose killer-whale Transformation protects human fleets from the depths. He survives the destruction of his clan, abandons a futile revenge campaign to preserve its remaining families, and continues defending the Night Garden until the latest chapters reveal that Asterion has brought him under the Hunger Domain. (Chapters 985, 1014–1023, 2226–2271, 2608, and 2824)

Biography

Guardian of Falcon Scott

Bloodwave entered the Antarctic campaign as the Transcendent guardian of House of Night's naval convoy. He remained beneath Falcon Scott for most of the siege, protecting the anchored evacuation ships from Nightmare Creatures rather than seeking attention on land. When the Terror of LO49 enthralled the port, Bloodwave accepted the danger of leaving those vessels undefended because killing the creature was the only way to free the fortress and keep the evacuation route alive. He led Naeve and Sunny into the abyss and broke the Terror's outer defense with overwhelming force. (Chapters 985, 993, and 1013–1016)

The Terror's concentrated mental attack eventually stunned Bloodwave despite his rage and physical superiority, allowing Sunny to reach and kill it. Bloodwave recovered first, interposed his enormous body between the exhausted Masters and the remaining thralls, and destroyed nearly a hundred of them before carrying both men upward at a deliberately slower pace. The hunt saved the ships and refugees, but its success also established his limits: a Saint who dominated open water could still be disabled by a sufficiently potent attack on the mind. (Chapters 1017–1023)

Vengeance for the House of Night

After Mordret seized the Saints of House of Night as vessels and destroyed the clan, Bloodwave was one of only three Night Saints left. He fought beside Naeve, Aether, Morgan, and government champions at Rivergate and Bastion, repeatedly battling the transformed bodies of former clanmates in water that magnified both sides' power. Those battles left him severely wounded more than once, while fighting on land prevented him and Naeve from using their Aspects fully. Vengeance kept him in the campaign even after it became clear that Mordret's stolen force could not be defeated by ordinary attrition. (Chapters 1913 and 1984–1989)

Morgan's repeating day revealed that Bloodwave and the other defenders had already died countless times without securing victory. When she ended the loop and warned that the Nightwalkers' surviving families and maritime duties would be left undefended if all three died for revenge, Bloodwave departed with Naeve and Aether. The decision did not forgive Mordret or restore their clan; it redirected their duty toward the people and traditions still alive, allowing the Night Garden and the remnants of House of Night to enter government service. (Chapters 2226–2271)

The Night Garden and Asterion's arrival

Bloodwave continued serving aboard the Night Garden, where Naeve's daughter treated the grim Saint as a great-uncle and where millions of refugees depended on the remaining Nightwalkers. He joined the expedition to the Eternal City after reluctantly accepting that cooperation with former enemies was necessary, fought Old Tom in the deep sea, helped defend the living ship, and encountered the vanished founder of House of Night. The journey preserved the vessel and the clan's divine lineage; when the Eternal City became untenable, Jet entrusted Bloodwave with taking the Night Garden and the wounded Aether through Nephis's Dream Gate. (Chapters 2271, 2601–2627, 2650–2678)

In the latest phase, Bloodwave still performed routine duties for the living ship, including transporting personnel between worlds. What appeared to be an ordinary request to bring a civil engineer aboard instead delivered Asterion himself to the bridge. Bloodwave, Naeve, Aether, Tyris, Roan, and even Nightwalker bowed to the Sovereign, revealing that they had become subjects of the Hunger Domain. The corpus does not establish when Bloodwave was enthralled or how much independent judgment he retains, but his latest condition is alive and aligned with Asterion against Jet. (Chapters 2822–2824)

Appearance and personality

In human form, Bloodwave is a towering, powerfully built man with smooth ebony skin, perfectly white hair, and eyes glinting in indigo and deep blue. His presence makes Masters uneasy even when he is merely leaning against a wall. His Transcendent body resembles an immense black-and-white killer whale, its hide marked by old scars and its long fins protected by steel armor with blade-like edges. (Chapters 985, 1014, and 2271)

Bloodwave is stern, quiet, intimidating, and rarely expressive. He accepts perilous responsibilities without speeches and often responds with grunts or short, grim answers. His reserve does not mean indifference: he shields exhausted allies, stays with the remnants of his clan, and tolerates Naeve's daughter teasing him as “Grandpa Bloodwave.” He can also admit fear with unexpected honesty, naming Jet as someone he would rather not confront directly. (Chapters 1014–1023, 2226–2271, and 2601–2604)

Abilities and Aspect

Bloodwave is a Saint whose Aspect and inherited affinity are adapted to the sea. The corpus does not disclose his Aspect's name, rank, or complete list of Abilities, but it explicitly shows an aquatic Transformation, a crimson influence over surrounding water, exceptional physical power and speed, rapid healing, and the inherited lineage of Storm God. These advantages are strongest in open water and reduced on land. (Chapters 1014–1023, 1984–1989, 2608–2620, and 2651)

Killer-whale Transformation

Bloodwave transforms into a killer whale vastly larger than any mundane animal. The form moves through deep water at stunning speed, carries other fighters on armored fins, tears several large Nightmare Creatures apart in one bite, and uses those fins as blades. He can ram through formations and endure abyssal pressure that troubles lesser Transcendents. On land he remains extraordinarily fast and strong, but House of Night's sea-aligned powers are explicitly stifled away from water, making terrestrial battles a tactical disadvantage. (Chapters 1014–1023 and 1985–1989)

His transformed body is durable rather than invulnerable. The Terror of LO49 restrains and mentally stuns him; former Night Saints inflict wounds that require days of recovery; and Old Tom's abyssal defenses shred his human armor after he returns to human shape. Bloodwave's wounds close rapidly and flowing blood seems to make him more ferocious, but the source does not establish whether this is a discrete regenerative Ability, a feature of his lineage, or Transcendent vitality. (Chapters 1017–1023, 1984–1989, and 2651)

Crimson water and predatory force

When Bloodwave's eyes turn red, the surrounding water takes on a crimson hue and his presence intensifies. In the hunt for the Terror, the effect washes fear away beneath his murderous rage, increases his speed and might, drives destructive currents, and lets his roar travel through the sea like a shockwave. He repeats the crimson manifestation while fighting Old Tom. The corpus demonstrates these effects but does not name the Ability, specify its range or essence cost, or establish whether the colored water itself is controlled blood. (Chapters 1014–1016 and 2608–2612)

Bloodwave is also an experienced naval commander and abyssal hunter. He tracks hidden enemies, coordinates with other Nightwalkers underwater, protects convoys for extended periods, and understands the Night Garden and Stormsea. The story does not fully explain the Nightwalkers' underwater communication or identify which parts of that expertise are supernatural, so these skills should not be treated as additional confirmed Aspect Abilities. (Chapters 985, 1014–1023, 2271, and 2601–2627)

Relationships

  • Naeve: Naeve calls Bloodwave his uncle and repeatedly fights beside him. Their bond survives Falcon Scott, the destruction of House of Night, and the failed vengeance campaign; Bloodwave also acts as a gruff great-uncle to Naeve's daughter. Both are ultimately revealed as subjects of Asterion aboard the Night Garden. (Chapters 1014–1023, 1913, 2226–2271, and 2824)
  • Jet: Jet becomes Bloodwave's commander after the Nightwalkers enter government service. He respects and fears her strength, accepts her orders during the Eternal City expedition, and retreats with the Night Garden when she directs him. Their latest scene turns that service into conflict when he helps deliver Asterion aboard and bows with the other enthralled Saints. (Chapters 2271, 2601–2678, and 2824)
  • Mordret: Mordret destroys Bloodwave's clan and uses its Saints as vessels, making the prince the target of Bloodwave's revenge. Bloodwave fights former companions under Mordret's control but eventually withdraws when repeated death cannot save the clan or protect its survivors. (Chapters 1913, 1984–1989, and 2226)
  • Sunny: Bloodwave accepts Sunny as support in the LO49 hunt, later fights beside him against Old Tom, and helps carry the Night Garden through the Eternal City expedition. Their relationship is based on demonstrated competence rather than intimacy; Bloodwave remains characteristically terse even when Sunny invites him to visit afterward. (Chapters 1013–1023, 2608–2614, and 2678)

Items

Bloodwave's killer-whale form wears steel armor over its long fins, turning them into cutting weapons while protecting them from impact. In human form he wears armor suitable for a Nightwalker, but it is shredded during the Eternal City expedition. The corpus supplies no name, Rank, enchantment description, or later custodian for either set, and assigns Bloodwave no generated notable item. (Chapters 1014–1016 and 2651)
