Aidre

Aidre was the Transcendent ruler of the Sacred Grove, a priestess blessed by Heart God, and one of the seven immortal Chain Lords appointed to keep Hope imprisoned. She was also the first of those jailers to question their purpose, and her murder by Solvane damaged Hope's prison and set the surviving Chain Lords on the path toward rebellion and ruin. (Chapters 636 and 649–650)

Biography

Questioning the Chain Lords' duty

Aidre served as one of the seven living shackles created to bind Hope, with her death held separately in a divine knife so that ordinary wounds could not end her life. Despite that charge, she concluded that the Chain Lords had misunderstood Sun God's will. She spread reverence for Hope through the Kingdom and challenged Noctis with the question that later defined his rebellion: if the gods wanted the daemon confined forever, why had each jailer been given a key to release her? (Chapters 636 and 649–650)

Her position did not amount to a casual abandonment of her oath. When Solvane accused her of creating a cult of daemon worshippers, Aidre insisted that she remembered their solemn duty and that the other Chain Lords were the ones who had failed to understand it. She also declared that war was unwelcome in the Sacred Grove, presenting her sanctuary and its people as responsibilities she would defend even against another immortal. (Chapter 636)

Solvane's challenge and Aidre's death

Solvane arrived carrying the Iron Knife and falsely claimed that every Chain Lord had agreed to Aidre's execution. Aidre immediately recognized that Noctis would never consent and understood the wider consequence: killing one jailer would destroy the balance among the remaining six. Once she realized that this imbalance was Solvane's deliberate objective, Aidre called her the bravest of them and promised to remember the sacrifice with gratitude even in the Realm of Shadows. (Chapter 636)

Aidre nevertheless refused to surrender on her own hallowed ground. She summoned the wooden knife that contained Solvane's death and declared that both she and the Grove would fight. The confrontation itself is not shown in full, but its outcome is: Aidre lay dead amid the burning trees, the Iron Knife shattered in the blood-soaked ground beside her, while her elderly son died in the same fire after reaching her body. (Chapter 636)

Aidre's death removed the first of Hope's seven shackles. Noctis later explained that the prison remained standing but was no longer perfect, allowing Hope's influence to seep across the kingdom and magnify the desires of mortals and Saints into madness. Solvane's act thereby helped produce the very rebellion Aidre had wanted, even as it destroyed Aidre, her sanctuary, and its inhabitants. (Chapters 649–650 and 729)

Knowledge, vengeance, and the Grove's legacy

Noctis remembered Aidre as a dear friend and said that they had been very close. After her death, he inherited knowledge and other unspecified things from her; that knowledge let him remove and preserve the Sun Prince's memory of the Ivory Knife's location. Centuries later, Aidre's original question remained the intellectual and emotional source of his plan to kill the remaining Chain Lords and free Hope. (Chapters 649–650 and 658)

His grief also produced the Wormvine. Noctis cultivated the Corrupted creature from Aidre's blood and the ashes of the Heart Grove, fed it for centuries, and planted it inside Solvane as revenge. Sunny, who had witnessed Aidre's death through a nightmare, rejected Noctis's claim that this was her “last gift”: he argued that Aidre had felt gratitude rather than hatred because Solvane's choice made Hope's eventual liberation possible. (Chapters 727 and 729)

Traces of Aidre's sanctuary survived beyond the Second Nightmare's history. The grove became known as the Desecrated Grove, and a sapling of its sacred tree later empowered the Chain Breaker. Much later, Sunny remembered Aidre and that sapling while identifying the Sacred Grove as one of the rare surviving traces of Heart God's influence. (Chapter 2596)

Appearance and personality

Aidre appeared as a delicate young woman in a simple green dress, with a girdle made of tree bark around her thin waist. Her skin was soft, her eyes were sparkling hazel, and her features resembled those of her elderly son. Her beauty and youth contrasted with her ancient responsibility and externally imposed immortality. (Chapter 636)

Her calm, confident presence brought peace and safety to those around her, while her exchange with Solvane showed perception, courage, and moral independence. Aidre detected a lie immediately, understood Solvane's strategy before it was explained, thanked an enemy whose act advanced her own goal, and still chose to resist rather than abandon her people and sacred ground. (Chapter 636)

Abilities and Aspect

Transcendent status and divine immortality

Aidre was a Transcendent and one of the seven Chain Lords. Sun God twisted the jailers' fates and placed each one's death in another's knife, leaving Aidre effectively immortal until the Iron Knife returned her death to her. The knife shattered when Solvane killed her, demonstrating that this protection was an imposed condition of Hope's prison rather than proof of a separate regenerative Ability. (Chapters 636, 649, 658, and 2596)

Blessing of Heart God

Aidre was explicitly the blessed priestess of Heart God, whose authorities include souls, emotions, memory, growth, and hunger. She treated the Sacred Grove as capable of joining her resistance, but the scene does not reveal whether that statement described an Aspect Ability, a bond with the sanctuary, or the loyalty of its inhabitants. Her Aspect name, Aspect rank, Flaw, Ability names, costs, ranges, and precise combat mechanics are not given. (Chapters 636 and 2596)

Knowledge of memory and the soul

Noctis attributed his ability to remove and preserve the Sun Prince's memory to the knowledge and unspecified inheritances he received from Aidre. That evidence establishes her as a source of advanced knowledge concerning memory and the soul, consistent with her priesthood, but it does not show Aidre performing the procedure herself or identify it as an innate Aspect Ability. (Chapters 658 and 1123)

Relationships

Noctis

Noctis called Aidre his dear friend and refused any suggestion that he would have consented to her death. Her question about the gods' keys became the seed of his plan to free Hope, while her murder drove him to cultivate Wormvine for centuries. Their bond therefore survived through his inherited knowledge, his rebellion, and his vengeance, although Sunny challenged the revenge as contrary to Aidre's actual feelings. (Chapters 636, 649–650, 658, and 727–729)

Solvane and her son

Solvane judged Aidre's worship of Hope to be a betrayal and killed her to destabilize the prison, yet Aidre ultimately interpreted the act as courageous sacrifice rather than simple murder. Aidre's unnamed son, already an old man while she remained young, loved her deeply and trusted the Grove's protection; he died in the fire while embracing her body, making the human cost of the Chain Lords' conflict immediate. (Chapter 636)

Items

Aidre wielded a knife carved from one piece of wood, the divine key that contained Solvane's death. Solvane possessed it after Aidre's murder, but the transfer is not narrated. She later surrendered it during her defeat, and Sunny used it to make Solvane mortal and kill her; once its fate had been returned, the blade broke and became mundane. (Chapters 636, 658, 727, and 729)

The Iron Knife contained Aidre's death and was carried by Solvane into the Sacred Grove. Its exact enchantments beyond sealing and returning that fate are not enumerated, but its function is shown by Aidre's otherwise impossible death, after which its broken pieces remained beside her body. The Iron Knife was therefore destroyed rather than inherited by another custodian. (Chapters 636 and 658)
