Mary

Mary is a halfling prisoner who disguises exceptional strength behind the role of Chemical's harmless errand runner. She helps provoke a prison rebellion to reach the Blood-Tear Stone mine's hidden depths, then enters the revived Vampiric Lord's service.

Biography

The innocent mask and the failed diversion

Mary carries baskets and runs errands while appearing timid enough to escape notice, although Yeon-woo detects tranquil eyes and strength greater than Chemical's beneath the performance. She and Chemical use a general rebellion as cover to enter a forbidden route toward the mine's heart. Yeon-woo recognizes the diversion, defeats Mary when she uses an immature vampiric technique, and stores her in his shadows. After being released near the Vampiric Lord, Mary chooses service under the ruler whose return may let her survive and recover status. (Chapters 464–470)

Appearance and personality

Mary is a young halfling girl who carries a basket of stones and presents a frightened, innocent face. Her calm eyes contradict that disguise, and she whistles rather than acknowledge pressure from the prisoners around her. She is patient, deceptive, and opportunistic, preferring misdirection to open leadership and accepting capture without futile resistance once Yeon-woo has already won. (Chapters 464–469)

Abilities and powers

Mary's hidden physical strength is enough to defeat Chemical. Her principal demonstrated skill creates suction resembling Bathory's Vampiric Sword and can conjure beasts, but Yeon-woo judges it an underdeveloped version: the pull is mild and her creatures are far below the Vampiric Lord's high-ranker-level Morgrim and Roost. The similarity suggests a connection without establishing its origin, and the ability offers no answer to Yeon-woo's shadows. (Chapters 464, 467–470)
