Zhu Lin

Zhu Lin is an Empyrean Exalt who has followed Grand Empyrean Jiu Di for one thousand years. His established limit is the seventh palace of the Empyrean Trial; Wang Lin's rapid advance through and beyond that point forces the proud cultivator to acknowledge an overwhelming difference in power. Biography

Watching the Empyrean Trial

Zhu Lin has repeatedly cleared the seventh palace but failed at the eighth despite believing his cultivation should be sufficient. When Wang Lin's first visit to the trial ends early, Zhu Lin initially pays little attention. He becomes wary after noticing that Wang Lin deliberately stops after the fourth palace rather than simply being expelled by failure. (Chapters 1927–1929)

On Wang Lin's second attempt, Zhu Lin watches with increasing seriousness as he clears the sixth and seventh palaces. Zhu Lin flies closer to observe the eighth, only to see Wang Lin clear it in three breaths. He asks Wang Lin's name, then lowers his head bitterly when Wang Lin proceeds through the ninth palace as well. (Chapters 1950–1953)

After Wang Lin is formally recognized as an Ascendant Empyrean, Zhu Lin joins the assembled cultivators in bowing. His final response is not friendship but an honest acknowledgment that Wang Lin has crossed a boundary Zhu Lin cannot reach. (Chapter 1955)

Appearance and personality

Zhu Lin is a middle-aged man dressed in black, with long flowing hair. He is proud, aloof, and accustomed to standing above ordinary Empyrean cultivators, but he is observant enough to recognize danger before most spectators and disciplined enough to bow when the result is undeniable.
