Zhou Rui

Zhou Rui is a cultivator who appears inside the mortal lifetime Wang Lin experiences through Dream Dao. She is not established as a separately surviving woman in the outside timeline; she is one of the familiar people reconstructed in his made-up world. Her kindness during a rainy-night meeting, and the pair's failure to recognize one another decades later, make her a quiet expression of the dream's themes of memory, fate, and missed connections. Biography

Meeting the mortal scholar

Zhou Rui travels by boat with her junior sister Xu Fei while the two are on their way to meet Wang Zhuo and investigate the possible birth of a treasure. She invites the young mortal scholar Wang Lin aboard to escape the rain, catches him when he slips on the bank, and treats his embarrassment gently. Both women find his name strangely familiar, but the dream prevents them from recalling why. Zhou Rui uses a spell to put him to sleep before they depart and wonders whether they knew one another in a previous life. She also leaves him a thick coat, which he preserves for decades. The encounter belongs to Wang Lin's constructed mortal life rather than a recovered historical meeting. The dream recreates many familiar cultivators with incomplete recognition, allowing karmic connections from his true life to surface only as intuition. Zhou Rui and Xu Fei therefore sense Wang Lin without possessing their outside-world memories. (Chapters 1591 and 1609)

Passing again in Su

More than twenty years later, Zhou Rui and Xu Fei pass Wang Lin's boat in the city of Su. Wang Lin recognizes them but remains silent, reflecting that Zhou Rui was the only woman in this mortal life who made his heart move. Zhou Rui glances back with sharp eyes but, unwilling to probe a stranger merely for looking at her, does not use divine sense and misses him behind a stone bridge. (Chapter 1603)

After Xu Fei realizes that the white-haired man was the young scholar, Zhou Rui first tries to walk away, then turns back. She flies over Su and spreads her divine sense across the river and the entire city, but Wang Lin has already departed. Her desire to see him comes too late, and their paths do not cross again as individuals. Years later she joins the cultivators drawn to listen to the aged Wang Lin's understanding of karma. End of the Dream Dao world

When Wang Lin completes his insight and ends the dream, the fabricated geography disappears before the people within it. Zhou Rui and Xu Fei are still flying when time stops; a wind reduces their dream bodies to ash. This is the dissolution of a Dream Dao manifestation, not evidence that an outside-world Zhou Rui dies at that moment. (Chapter 1613)

Appearance and personality

Zhou Rui is introduced as an exceptionally beautiful young woman in a purple dress, with moon-bright eyes that carry sadness, exhaustion, hesitation, and a trace of annoyance toward Xu Fei's teasing. Later, her gaze is described as sharp. She is gentle and considerate toward the mortal Wang Lin, inviting him out of the rain and giving him a coat, but she is also restrained enough not to scan a passerby without cause. Once she understands whom she saw, that restraint gives way to a sudden, unsuccessful search. (Chapters 1591, 1603, and 1604)

Abilities and cultivation

Dream-world cultivation

Zhou Rui and Xu Fei identify themselves as cultivators rather than martial artists, and their conversation associates them with the Heng Yue Sect. The corpus does not state Zhou Rui's precise realm in this dream. Her abilities should therefore not be scaled from similarly named or outside-world figures. (Chapter 1591)

Flight and physical movement

She can carry the falling Wang Lin from the riverbank onto the boat with a light kick, later travels through Zhao in the air with other cultivators, and flies openly over the city of Su when searching for him. These feats establish supernatural movement and flight but do not define her combat strength. (Chapters 1591, 1595, and 1604)

Sleep spell and divine sense

Zhou Rui quietly casts a spell that sends the mortal Wang Lin to sleep. Decades later, she spreads divine sense over Su's river and ultimately searches the entire city. The search still fails because Wang Lin has already left, showing that the sense covers a broad area but does not trace him beyond its active range. (Chapters 1591 and 1604)

Disguised appearance

When Zhou Rui and Xu Fei leave their boat and enter Su, their striking appearances become ordinary. The scene shows controlled disguise or transformation, although it does not name the method or explain its duration. (Chapter 1604)

Relationships

• Wang Lin: Zhou Rui shelters the mortal Wang Lin, gives him a coat, and becomes his only romantic stirring during the dream life.
