Biography

Mistaking Wang Lin for a hidden senior

Zhan Konglie is a candidate for the Thunder Celestial Temple's messenger ranks when Shengong Hu's reverence draws his attention to Wang Lin. At the thunder pool, Wang Lin's comprehension of a sliver of thunder origin appears impossible for a peer, and Zhan follows Shengong Hu's conclusion that the stranger must be a hidden senior. He treats Wang Lin as a prospective lord, watches his feats in the collapsing Thunder Celestial Realm, and joins the few Allheaven cultivators who believe the Yao family's hunt cannot threaten him. The belief begins as inference and opportunism, but repeated survival turns it into genuine conviction. (Chapters 728–800 and 820)

The Allheaven competition

At the Allheaven gathering, Zhan recommends Xu Mu over family opposition and then challenges him—not primarily to win, but to resolve the weakness in his own dao. Wang Lin tells him that battle intent accumulated through endless victories has a limit; true intent requires a belief important enough to fight the world and accept death. The answer dissolves Zhan's aura and replaces it with enlightenment. He withdraws, cultivates on the spot, and later watches Wang Lin's battles as practical demonstrations of determination to win. Instead of surrendering his dao ideal as payment, he begins rebuilding it around an internal cause. (Chapters 859–869)

Battle Scroll and future leadership

Li Yunzi tests Zhan against the ancestral Battle Scroll. In eight seconds Zhan splits his divine sense and connects to it, drawing a trace of source-origin energy into his body before the power collapses. He qualifies but emerges pale and exhausted, showing that his compatibility exceeds most candidates while his vessel cannot yet retain third-step force. Zhan also refuses the celestial pool's offered transformation, following the cautious choice made by Wang Lin and other strong contenders. Centuries later he leads his generation of the Zhan family during Allheaven's war preparations, helping move cultivation planets and speaking with authority among nearly one hundred cultivators. Passing an old lord unrecognized

While moving a planet, Zhan encounters a white-robed traveler he cannot initially identify. His old fervor has not transferred to Allheaven's newly revered Master Lu Fu; it still belongs to the senior he once chose. Only after the stranger passes does the white hair align with memory. Zhan pursues at full speed but cannot catch Wang Lin and asks the empty stars why he was not called. The moment shows the lasting consequence of their asymmetrical bond: Wang Lin remembers him fondly as an old acquaintance, while Zhan has organized a central part of his cultivation identity around a lord he rarely sees. Appearance and personality

Zhan Konglie later appears as a middle-aged man and looks older when Wang Lin encounters him during the war preparations. He is proud, alert, and intensely serious about dao. His willingness to bow to superior insight can resemble submission, but he also challenges the person he reveres when belief demands an answer. He carries fervor for years, tempers it with leadership responsibility, and remains emotionally marked by Wang Lin long after their paths separate. (Chapters 861–862 and 1480)

Abilities and cultivation

Unyielding battle-intent domain

Zhan fuses the unyielding quality of planetary thunder into his body and studies the relic of the Zhan ancestor until it becomes his domain: unyielding battle intent. When released, that intent takes the shape of a sword-energy dragon and can join other cultivators' auras in a pressure storm. His original method strengthens it through repeated challenges and victory, but Wang Lin identifies its fragility: intent based only on winning collapses before a truly superior opponent. The revised path requires a belief that makes retreat impossible. This gives the domain a causal core—what must be protected or achieved—rather than treating battle itself as the goal. Illusory Yin cultivation and thunder

Zhan is directly associated with Illusory Yin during the Thunder Celestial Realm period and ranks among the strongest candidates for messenger status. He withstands high-level battle-intent pressure, traverses unstable celestial fragments, and uses thunder-aligned movement and perception. His level is still below Wang Lin after the latter reaches Nirvana Scryer, which is why Wang Lin dismisses a direct contest without exchanging spells. Zhan's growth is primarily shown through comprehension rather than a named attack: he absorbs the lesson about determination, recognizes true second-step pressure, and later leads peers in planet-moving preparations. Battle Scroll compatibility

The Zhan family's Battle Scroll contains source-origin energy connected to the third step. Zhan can split divine sense, merge a portion into the scroll in eight seconds, and draw out an extremely small strand—faster than most candidates, who need nine or ten seconds. His body cannot contain it; at the ten-second limit the energy collapses and leaves him drenched in sweat and weakened as if after a major battle. Compatibility therefore establishes potential, not possession of third-step power. Continued comprehension and a stronger vessel would be required before the source energy could become a stable part of his cultivation. (Chapters 874 and 875)
