Yan Lu
Yan Lu is a Great Soul Sect elder, master of Flame Vein Mountain, and teacher of Fan Shanlu and Fan Shanmeng. Her feud with Wang Lin begins when his cultivation destroys her mountain, then develops through public challenges, lost wagers, and eventual wartime cooperation. (Chapters 1821–1881)
Biography
The ruined Flame Vein Mountain
Yan Lu's conflict with Wang Lin begins indirectly. Fan Shanlu lets him enter the Great Soul Sect's main earth-fire vein, and his cultivation drains so much fire that Flame Vein Mountain collapses. Yan Lu returns with her core disciples and refuses to let the damage be quietly absorbed. Rather than attack as an isolated elder, she gathers their combined phoenix formation and stages the confrontation publicly, forcing Green Bull to recognize that her mountain and standing require compensation. When Wang Lin breaks the phoenix shadow, Yan Lu escalates to Soul Fantasy Origin. She spends essence blood to open a blood road and summons an image of the ninth ancestor, Luo Yunhai, surrounded by resentful souls. The pressure rises with every step the ancestor-shadow takes, but Yan Lu's face grows pale from sustaining it. Green Bull stops the battle before either side must pay its full cost. The settlement gives Wang Lin the ruined mountain and Yan Lu a replacement cave, ending the immediate dispute without creating trust. (Chapter 1829)
Wagers and a damaged dao heart
Yan Lu next tries to use Fan Shanmeng's curse against Wang Lin, revealing how readily she uses disciples as extensions of sect conflict. During his trial through the Great Soul Sect's ancestral floors, she wagers a blue umbrella that he cannot reach the seventh floor. After losing, she doubles down with a gourd containing thirty million dao souls and bets against the eighth. Wang Lin succeeds again, taking both treasures. (Chapters 1830 and 1834–1836)
The losses matter beyond property. His performance leaves a crack of fear in Yan Lu's dao heart because it demonstrates a rate of growth her prior judgment cannot explain. Even so, she does not let humiliation erase practical reason. She gives him an accurate map toward the inland sea and correctly recognizes what his absorption of water implies, setting rivalry aside when information is more useful than spite. War on the Heavenly Bull Continent
During the Green Devil invasion, Yan Lu fights as a Void Tribulant elder rather than remaining inside the sect. Fear of Wang Lin gradually becomes pragmatic respect. She offers him a healing pill and proposes that they hunt enemy Void Tribulant cultivators together, sharing the benefits instead of competing while surrounded by stronger threats. She later battles alongside Xu Dongde, escapes pursuing mid-stage enemies while injured, and shelters underground. (Chapters 1852–1869)
Yan Lu survives the campaign's worst movements and travels for months with the remaining group before they part from Wang Lin. Her arc does not turn her into his intimate ally; it shows a proud sect elder learning to revise tactics. She defends her authority fiercely, gambles too much when wounded pride is involved, and still possesses enough judgment to cooperate once war makes personal grievance secondary. (Chapters 1869–1881)
Appearance and personality
Yan Lu appears about thirty, with crescent-shaped brows, phoenix eyes, and five star-like marks on her forehead. She wears a white Daoist robe and carries herself with the authority of a mountain master. Proud, strategic, and sometimes vindictive, she prefers pressure that protects her public position. Her later conduct also shows discipline: she can put resentment aside for accurate intelligence or a mutually profitable wartime alliance. (Chapters 1822–1840 and 1860)
Abilities and cultivation
Void Tribulant cultivation
Yan Lu reaches the Void Tribulant level by the Heavenly Bull war and can confront early-stage opponents with allied support. This does not make her invulnerable: pursuit by multiple mid-stage cultivators leaves her injured and forces concealment underground. Her strength is best understood as high elder-level combat power whose survival still depends on formations, allies, and choosing engagements intelligently. (Chapters 1867–1869 and 1875)
Phoenix formation
Yan Lu and her disciples combine their cultivation into a vast phoenix shadow. The formation lets a mountain lineage concentrate many contributors behind its master, amplifying her challenge while tying its stability to their coordination. Wang Lin's Ancient Dao power breaks the phoenix, demonstrating that concentrated sect energy can be overcome by superior body strength and law. (Chapters 1828–1829)
Soul Fantasy Origin
By sacrificing essence blood, Yan Lu opens a blood road and invokes the ninth Great Soul Sect ancestor, Luo Yunhai. The manifested ancestor is accompanied by an immense mass of resentful souls, and each forward step multiplies the pressure on the target. The spell is neither effortless nor wholly self-contained: it pales Yan Lu, draws on an ancestral inheritance, and can be empowered by the gourd of dao souls. These costs make it an escalation technique rather than a routine attack. (Chapters 1829 and 1834–1836)
Divine-sense imprint
Yan Lu can place her divine sense into a disciple and briefly suppress that disciple's control in order to observe locations barred to her directly. She uses this method to follow Wang Lin's progress through prohibited ancestral floors. It extends perception rather than relocating her body, and it depends on using a disciple as the vessel. Defensive umbrella
Her blue umbrella is a defensive treasure strong enough to be offered in a wager between powerful elders. It supplements rather than replaces her cultivation, and ownership transfers to Wang Lin when she loses the seventh-floor bet. (Chapters 1834–1836)
