Biography

A favor becomes a hunt

At late Foundation Establishment, Teng Li accompanies Old Man Jimo and Chen Zhong when they target Zhang Hu and Wang Lin. He initially treats the attack as a favor to an acquaintance, confident that his lineage and artifacts make the risk trivial. That calculation changes when Wang Lin displays an unusual teleportation method and a flying sword. Teng Li's curiosity becomes greed: he decides that killing Wang Lin will secure both secrets for himself. (Chapters 81–82)

The chase continues for days through a dangerous jungle. Blue vines and a zombie consume his defensive resources, but Teng Li refuses to withdraw even after a life-saving treasure is spent. His persistence is not tactical necessity; it is the escalating conviction that the treasures ahead will repay every cost already incurred. Wang Lin exploits that exhaustion, wounds him with the flying sword, and turns the pursuit against its instigator. (Chapters 82–84)

Death and dismemberment

Wang Lin freezes and kills Teng Li, then dismantles the corpse to take the foundation, spirit root, blood, flesh, bones, and soul needed for his own survival and cultivation. Teng Li's inherited divine-sense protection activates at death, allowing Teng Huayuan to place a curse on Wang Lin. Thus Teng Li's reckless private hunt becomes a family vendetta even though he can no longer participate in it. (Chapters 84–90)

Lightning flying sword

His principal offensive treasure is an enormous flying sword carrying lightning and power beyond what an ordinary Foundation Establishment cultivator would be expected to produce unaided. It lets him pressure Wang Lin at range and makes the early pursuit lethal.
