Sima Yan
Sima Yan is a vice commander of ten thousand Black-Armored Soldiers in Sky Demon City. He initially responds cautiously to Wang Lin's appointment over him, but resentment drives him to undermine the new commander and brutalize Wang Lin's followers. Wang Lin ultimately kills him and converts his remaining vitality into a life seal. (Chapters 548–549, 562–563)
Biography
Conflict over command
Sima Yan has met Wang Lin before at a restaurant and greets him when Wang becomes commander. The soldiers' loyalty still rests largely with Sima, and he resents being displaced, but Wang Lin's silence makes him cautious enough to warn the regiment leaders not to provoke their new superior without cause. (Chapters 548–549)
Wang Lin invokes military law to seize effective control. Sima attempts to report him to the steward, only for the evidence to vindicate Wang Lin and force Sima to apologize. After Wang Lin leaves and is believed absent, Sima retaliates against his subordinates: he imprisons Hu Pao and destroys his cultivation, then crushes Thirteen's meridians and bones. (Chapters 550 and 562)
Sima and three other commanders attack when Wang Lin returns. Their combined demonic spiritual energy cannot stop him, and Sima is the most shaken by Wang Lin's effortless suppression. Wang Lin searches his soul and activates the Celestial Slaughter Art; Sima's body withers and explodes, and its life force becomes a life seal. (Chapters 562–563)
Appearance and personality
Sima Yan has a gloomy face and wears black armor marked with purple designs, together with a black helmet. He rides a giant one-horned beast. He can be strategically cautious, but his vindictive treatment of Hu Pao and Thirteen reveals cruelty once he believes Wang Lin cannot intervene. (Chapters 548–549 and 562)
