Ling Er

Ling Er is Master Yi Chen's granddaughter, a Nascent Soul cultivator born with a rare water-spirit body. Her recurring dreams reveal memories of Mu Ling, an Ancient Moon Clan god slave, and bring her soul's inherited brand into a new bond with Wang Lin.

The woman addressed as “Ling Er” in Chapter 219 is Cheng Ling, a separate person, and is not included in this article.

Biography

A water spirit hidden from exploitation

Ling Er grows up under Yi Chen's protection with a natural water-spirit body. Because such a constitution can be exploited as a cultivation furnace, her grandfather conceals its aura rather than advertise her talent. When Wang Lin visits, he recognizes the problem and gives her a straw hat covered in restrictions that can further hide her presence. Three small bells attached to the hat delight her, and she treasures the gift. Her cheerful curiosity soon brings her back to Wang Lin, whom she treats with a mixture of respect and instinctive familiarity. (Chapters 965–982)

Dreams of the Ancient Moon Clan

Since gaining awareness, Ling Er has dreamed of an ancient altar, a vast eight-star ancient god, and people making the gesture of a treasured bottle. She has kept the visions secret even from Yi Chen. After seeing Wang Lin's giant ancient-god projection, she invites him to watch the sunrise and presses him for an explanation. His attempt to dismiss the connection as the effect of a treasure does not satisfy her. When she kneels and repeats the treasured-bottle gesture, the act releases memories embedded far deeper than her current life. (Chapters 984–985)

Mu Ling's ritual and a transferred brand

The recovered memory identifies her former self as Mu Ling of the Ancient Moon Clan. The clan's god slaves used moon marks and the treasured-bottle formation to gather origin energy for an ancient god, who then returned a portion as ancient power. Repeated service left a brand strong enough to remain through reincarnation. Wang Lin's intervention accidentally displaces the former ancient god's ownership and imprints his own presence onto that surviving mark. Ling Er's life becomes linked to his heartbeat: his death would extinguish her as well. The bond explains her unexplained goodwill toward him, but it is not a romance or a consciously chosen contract. (Chapter 986)

Life after the awakening

Ling Er remains with Yi Chen's circle after the revelation. Situ Nan later sweeps her and others into one of his intrusive attempts to surround Wang Lin with women, an episode imposed on her rather than evidence of a lasting relationship. She subsequently stays beside her grieving grandfather after deaths in his family, brings wine, and shares the household's mourning. Information preserved through her ancient memories also helps Wang Lin recognize the Moon-Devouring Clan's connection to ancient-god servants. Her final cited appearance leaves her alive, with neither the god-slave brand nor the water-spirit body shown to have been removed. (Chapters 990–991, 1099–1100, and 1205)

Appearance and personality

Ling Er is a striking young woman who resembles Yi Chen. She has large eyes, a flawless face, long black hair, and a songbird-like voice whose natural charm is intensified by her water-spirit constitution. She is lively, direct, and difficult to deflect once curious: Wang Lin's evasive answer about her dreams only makes her press harder. At the same time, she keeps unsettling visions private for years and responds tenderly to her grandfather's grief, showing discretion beneath her bright manner. (Chapters 965, 981, and 984–986)

Abilities and cultivation

Nascent Soul cultivation

Ling Er is a Nascent Soul cultivator. She can travel with cultivators of her grandfather's circle and withstand environments that would threaten ordinary people, though the corpus does not give her a named personal combat technique or a precise Nascent Soul substage. A blue light protects her during the pressure surrounding the ancient-god projection, but the scene does not establish enough detail to assign that defense confidently to an innate spell rather than a protective object. Natural water-spirit body

Her water-spirit constitution gives her an unusually pure affinity and a naturally enchanting voice and presence. In the cultivation culture around her, that same quality makes her a potential furnace for another cultivator, which is why Yi Chen hides it and Wang Lin strengthens the concealment. Reincarnated god-slave brand

The brand on Ling Er's soul survives multiple lives and stores recognition, loyalty, and ritual memory associated with an ancient god. When Wang Lin activates it, his mark replaces the previous connection and links her continued life to his. This is a passive soul condition rather than an ability she freely casts, and its strongest demonstrated effects are recovered memory, instinctive familiarity, and the life-binding relationship. Treasured-bottle origin ritual

As Mu Ling, she knew a clan formation in which participants shaped a treasured-bottle gesture, activated moon marks, and condensed surrounding origin energy into a cyclone for an eight-star ancient god. The ancient god absorbed that offering and redistributed ancient power to the servants. Ling Er can reproduce the triggering gesture from memory, but the source does not establish that her present Nascent Soul self can independently recreate the full clan-scale formation. (Chapter 986)
