Li Yuan

Li Yuan is the head of a restriction lineage whom Wang Lin meets in the Thunder Celestial Realm. After Wang frees his own soul from an ancestral slave imprint, Li Yuan repays him by sharing a guarded family inheritance and becomes one of the principal sources of Wang's celestial-restriction knowledge. The Xue Yue figures called Li Yuan or Li Yun in earlier chapters are homonyms and are not part of this article. (Chapters 743–803 and 1482)

Biography

A trap in the celestial ruins

Li Yuan first appears beside Lady Ge, using restrictions that merge into the broken realm's terrain. Their apparent treasure site is a layered trap involving a heavenly ghost and eighteen overlapping restrictions. Wang Lin breaks the arrangement and gains the advantage, after which Li Yuan offers an ancient map and access to a more important sealed location rather than continue a losing fight. He claims the Ge family holds his life soul, and his careful concessions make him appear like an ambitious restriction expert bargaining for freedom. (Chapters 743–747)

That explanation is only partly true. Within the sealed site, evidence from the Li family's past reveals that an ancestor accepted a slave imprint from a celestial servant. Successive generations have fed cultivation and lifespan into an indestructible celestial soul attempting to revive its master. The intelligence directing Li Yuan has manipulated Wang because it recognizes the Karma Whip and needs an outsider capable of changing that cycle. Wang uses karma and the Stop spell to separate the inherited control from the soul beneath it. The autonomous Li Yuan survives and wakes horrified by memories of acts performed through his body. This distinction prevents the scheming servant persona from being treated as Li Yuan's unbroken personal intent. (Chapters 747–754)

Debt and inheritance

After a month of recovery, Li Yuan chooses disclosure over further manipulation. His family holds one of the ancient cultivation inheritances, centered on the Annihilation Restriction and a restriction heart passed to each family head. Outsiders can learn visible forms, but without that heart they cannot reproduce the true inheritance. Because Wang has freed his entire bloodline from the slave imprint, Li Yuan promises him half the restriction heart and explains the laws underlying celestial restrictions instead of offering only copied diagrams. (Chapters 754–756)

The partnership immediately becomes practical. Li Yuan identifies restriction eyes, helps set a trap, and collapses a sealed space during the pursuit by the Blood Ancestor. His techniques cannot defeat that vastly stronger enemy head-on, but they alter the battlefield long enough for escape. He continues studying statues, tablets, buildings, and terrain across the realm, treating each ruin as evidence about how celestial restrictions were constructed. (Chapters 756–758 and 775)

Injury and escape

Yao family cultivators later ambush Li Yuan with an ancient restriction-breaking mirror. He loses his right arm and is infested with poisonous insects that attack both body and origin soul. Wang rescues him and uses origin energy to prevent immediate death. Li Yuan fails to complete an Illusory Yin breakthrough on the spot, but the energy he absorbs leaves that advancement within reach. Even one-armed and badly injured, he continues casting restrictions and identifies the former Celestial Welcoming Palace, helping the expedition navigate rather than becoming a passive burden. (Chapters 769–775)

When the Thunder Celestial Realm closes, Wang risks Spatial Bending to carry Li Yuan through the collapsing route. Li Yuan ultimately exits by thunder furnace and survives the expedition. Wang later states that his own grasp of restrictions has deepened greatly because of Li Yuan, while much later testimony places the Li family among the holders of the four great ancient restriction traditions. No later scene establishes Li Yuan's personal fate, so surviving the realm is the last secure status rather than proof of immortality. (Chapters 788–803 and 1482)

Appearance and personality

Li Yuan is presented primarily through method rather than a stable portrait. He examines ground, stone, statues, and architecture with his hands and divine sense, preferring analysis to brute force. The controlled persona at first appears calculating and willing to lure others into danger; after the slave imprint is broken, Li Yuan is shaken by those memories, openly grateful, and exact about the debt his family owes Wang. Losing an arm does not end his participation, which shows both endurance and scholarly commitment. (Chapters 743–775)

Abilities and cultivation

Peak late Ascendant cultivation

Li Yuan operates at peak late Ascendant cultivation during the celestial-realm expedition. This gives him the spiritual power to deploy many restrictions simultaneously and endure travel through dangerous fragments, but it does not erase realm differences. The Blood Ancestor overwhelms his arrangements through superior force, and the Yao ambush leaves him near death. Wang's origin energy stabilizes him and creates an opportunity to enter Illusory Yin, yet the immediate breakthrough fails; the corpus does not confirm that he later completes it. (Chapters 743, 756, and 769–774)

Annihilation Restriction

The Li family's principal inheritance is the Annihilation Restriction. Li Yuan has reached its fourth level, with techniques such as the eighteen Plum restrictions deriving from that system. Its function is not simply to make barriers: overlapping marks can merge into terrain, designate restriction eyes, conceal the real structure of a trap, and trigger destructive collapse once the chosen conditions are met. Li Yuan estimates that a hypothetical seventh level might restrain the Blood Ancestor, which also defines his current limit—fourth-level mastery can delay or redirect that enemy but cannot seal him. Restriction heart and celestial laws

True use of the inheritance depends on the restriction heart carried by the family head. Forms can be copied into jade, but an outsider without the heart receives only an imitation. Li Yuan shares half with Wang because the family has been freed from its generational imprint. He also explains the eight laws of celestial restrictions, including a fourth law that disturbs local celestial spiritual energy so divine sense cannot cleanly detect what lies inside. This theory lets restrictions become concealment, perception control, and environmental engineering rather than only fixed seals. (Chapters 744 and 754–756)

Analysis, counters, and limits

Li Yuan can wrap divine sense inside restrictions, read old formations from ruins, and identify celestial structures by their surviving arrays. His defeat by the Yao family's ancient mirror shows the counter-system clearly: specialized treasures can break restriction layers faster than he can reconstruct them, exposing his physical body. Injury also matters; one-armed casting remains possible, but poison in both body and origin soul sharply reduces his ability to fight. His expertise improves Wang's later caution and technique, yet it remains a technical discipline with preparation time, inheritance requirements, and exploitable counters.
