Tayfun

Tayfun is a senior Church archbishop whose strategic doubts grow as Hermes's hidden war collides with evidence the Church suppressed. (Chapter 67)

Biography

Doubt inside the Church's command

Tayfun helps direct Hermes's campaigns and debates the cost of war with fellow church leaders, but repeated losses make him question assurances that doctrine and numbers can solve every threat. When conflict brings him face to face with Taquila's survivors, he encounters proof that the Church's public account of witches and the Battle of Divine Will is incomplete. He continues into the confrontation and is killed, leaving those doubts unable to become reform. (Chapters 67, 137, 483, 603, and 686)

Appearance and personality

Tayfun is an older, bearded churchman. He is experienced, formal, and more willing than some peers to voice strategic concern, although his doubts never overcome his obedience to the institution before his death. (Chapters 67, 137, and 483)

Tayfun has no established magic. He demonstrates clerical authority, military administration, strategic debate, and knowledge of Hermes's defenses.
