Biography
Finding work beyond portraiture
Soraya arrives with the instincts of a trained merchant's daughter and artist, expecting practice to mean pictures and portraits. Roland instead asks her to record people, maps, and technical subjects with exact visual fidelity. She accepts unfamiliar assignments, and the usefulness of those images gives her a place where artistic precision is treated as practical labor rather than an ornament or a suspicious witch's trick. Turning images into manufactured surfaces
After her ability evolves, Soraya applies imagined material properties directly to surfaces, creating protective and flexible coatings for buildings, machines, clothing, and military products. She repeatedly chooses factory and field work rather than limiting the power to display art. The result is a production capability ordinary workshops cannot yet duplicate, though each application still depends on her magic and an accurately conceived surface effect. Appearance and personality
Soraya is nineteen when introduced, with short brown curls, slender eyes, and a small freckle beside her nose. She is observant and professionally proud, but also adaptable: curiosity about how things look becomes curiosity about how a pictured material can function. (Chapter 98)

Magic Pen first lets Soraya create extremely faithful, colored images. Its evolved form can turn a drawn surface into a coating with properties based on the material she understands and depicts, including weather protection and rubber-like flexibility.
