Rodney
Rodney is an artillery soldier and veteran gunner.
Biography
An ordinary gunner becomes a veteran
Rodney joins Border Town's artillery while still unsure why the prince needs guns after the Months of Demons. Repeated defenses and the battle against Duke Ryan teach him to adjust cannon under pressure and trust a crew, turning paid militia work into a continuing military occupation. (Chapters 81, 92, 115, and 280)
He fights on walls and ships, imagines better warships, and remains part of the artillery's technical discussions years later. His latest appearance shows confidence earned through service, but not independent command: manpower, supplies, and senior approval still determine which weapon ideas become real. (Chapters 333, 502, and 1207)
Appearance and personality
The supplied corpus gives no detailed fixed portrait. Rodney is casual enough to yawn or lean on a broom, curious about witches and machines, and increasingly assured as experience replaces his early uncertainty. (Chapters 81, 92, 280, and 1207)
Magic and abilities
Rodney has no magic. He demonstrates cannon loading, alignment, battlefield observation, shipboard gunnery, and practical discussion of weapons; he depends on a crew, ammunition, a stable firing solution, and commanders such as Van'er. (Chapters 115, 280, 333, 502, and 1207)
Relationships
Van'er is Rodney's crew leader and later artillery commander, repeatedly explaining the purpose and discipline behind their weapons. Roland Wimbledon's army gives both men training and continuity beyond the original militia. (Chapters 81, 92, 115, and 502)
Items
The finalized notable-item inventory assigns Rodney no catalogued signature item.
