Lesya
Lesya is Karl's furnace specialist, an ordinary mason whose practical designs become part of Neverwinter's iron and chemical infrastructure. (Chapters 125 and 182)
Biography
Building the furnace he once expected to leave on paper
The Mason Guild's dissolution leaves Lesya expecting that years of furnace knowledge may survive only as drawings. He accepts Karl's invitation to Border Town and uses reliable pay, cement, and new air systems to build multiple furnaces, including a shaft design developed from his own experience. Later, as vice minister, he completes the masonry for a dry-distillation oven and asks how it works so the next version can improve, turning craft pride into continuing technical collaboration. (Chapters 125, 174, 182–183, and 568)
Appearance and personality
The chapters identify Lesya as a male mason but do not establish a detailed physical portrait. He is meticulous, serious about workmanship, and intellectually curious enough to ask for operating principles rather than follow a drawing blindly. (Chapters 182 and 568)
Magic and abilities
Lesya has no magic. He demonstrates advanced masonry, furnace design, refractory-brick construction, and the ability to identify where metal components or operating knowledge exceed his specialty. Soraya's firebricks and other workers' metalwork remain necessary complements to his structures. (Chapters 174, 182–183, and 568)
Relationships
Karl Van Bate is Lesya's old guild colleague and the person who recommends him to Roland. Collaboration with Soraya's heat-resistant materials and Roland Wimbledon's process designs expands what his masonry can support. (Chapters 125, 174, 183, and 568)
