Jop
Jop is an early Border Town artilleryman whose practical familiarity with experimental equipment grows into long service as a First Army officer. (Chapter 81)
Biography
Growing with the artillery arm
Jop first treats unfamiliar concrete boats and cannon work with the rough confidence of a militiaman learning by use. Campaigns turn that improvisation into experienced artillery service, sustained by rivalry and banter with Van'er and the gun battalions. By the latest evidence he can use family and unit connections to help evaluate new rifles, showing how an early crewman becomes part of the officer network that carries weapons knowledge forward. (Chapters 81, 333, 502, and 1207–1208)
Appearance and personality
No consistent physical description is established. Jop is outspoken, practical, and comfortable teasing fellow soldiers, but the continuity of his service shows that humor sits alongside real technical familiarity and unit loyalty. (Chapters 81 and 502)
Magic and abilities
Jop has no magic. He demonstrates artillery drill, crew coordination, practical evaluation of weapons and transport, and later junior command. His effectiveness depends on trained crews, ammunition, standardized equipment, and the wider First Army logistics system. (Chapters 333, 502, and 1207–1208)
Relationships
Van'er is Jop's recurring comrade and rival within the artillery community. Their banter and later cooperation preserve knowledge across changing weapons rather than isolating expertise in a single specialist. (Chapters 502 and 1207–1208)
