Jack

Jack is a one-eyed sea captain.

Biography

The captain who keeps the witches connected

Captain Jack accepts regular dealings with witches when many sailors would not, carrying people and supplies to Sleeping Island despite its difficult waters. His practical navigation and willingness to treat the island as a home make him part of the community's survival without placing him inside its leadership. (Chapters 203 and 255)

He later carries witch teams through dangerous seas, responds to monsters and weather, and eventually brings Sleeping Island's migrants to Neverwinter. The final voyage frames arrival not as the loss of the island but as a return home, a consequence made possible by his long transport service. (Chapters 324–326, 530, and 899)

Appearance and personality

Jack is an older, one-eyed captain commonly shown smoking a pipe. He is blunt, experienced, fond of plain fish soup, and capable of grumbling about witch requests while continuing to carry them through dangerous water. (Chapters 203, 255, 324–325, and 899)

Magic and abilities

Jack has no magic. He demonstrates navigation, seamanship, command of a sailing crew, and knowledge of Fjords routes and coasts; sails, weather, shoals, and the ship's capabilities constrain every journey. (Chapters 203, 255, 324–326, and 530)

Relationships

Tilly Wimbledon relies on Jack for transport and treats him as a trusted civilian partner. His banter with Lotus, Honey, and other witches shows familiarity built through repeated voyages rather than formal allegiance. (Chapters 203, 255, 324–326, 530, and 899)
