Heather
Heather is an archbishop and church strategist.
Biography
A strategist consumed by the church's war
Heather rises from poverty inside the church and becomes an archbishop valued for observation and political calculation. Faced with the coming Battle of Divine Will, she supports unifying the kingdoms through force and discusses how the church can exploit nobles, trained agents, and plague, choosing institutional victory over the lives consumed by those measures. (Chapters 67, 137, and 231)
Her loose, cynical speech coexists with genuine strategic ability, but the Wolfheart campaign produces the unpredictable consequence her colleagues fear: Heather is killed and the war's direction changes. Later church figures invoke her methods and manner, leaving her influence present after her death. (Chapters 267, 311, 349, and 383)
Appearance and personality
Heather is portrayed as a woman with a frivolous laugh and irreverent manner that alarms more solemn clergy. Beneath that surface she is keen, clever, and devout to the church's objective, a combination that makes her both effective and morally ruthless. (Chapters 67, 137, and 267)
Magic and abilities
Heather has no demonstrated supernatural power. Her skills are political analysis, interrogation, recruitment strategy, and church administration; her death in campaign conditions shows that insight does not insulate a planner from the war she advances. (Chapters 137, 231, 267, and 311)
Relationships
Mayne and Tayfun are Heather's fellow senior church leaders, sometimes rebuking her speech while relying on her judgment. Her death becomes a lesson Tayfun uses to counsel Mayne about duty and unpredictable outcomes. (Chapters 67, 137, 267, and 349)
