Gammon
Gammon is a Crescent Moon Bay merchant who repeatedly recognizes commercial uses for Neverwinter's unfamiliar products and machines. (Chapter 187)
Biography
Choosing early investment in strange machines
Steam power reaches Gammon as an expensive and unfamiliar proposition, but he judges its transport potential rather than waiting for universal approval. He participates in early paddle-ship conversion and trials, accepting technical and financial risk to gain a faster vessel. Later he applies the same curiosity to glass bottles and Chaos Drinks and joins wider trade delegations, turning individual purchases into a continuing commercial relationship between the Fjords and Neverwinter. (Chapters 187, 283, 680, and 835)
Appearance and personality
No consistent physical description is established. Gammon is commercially adventurous, curious about demonstrations, and willing to calculate value in uses that more conservative merchants dismiss. (Chapters 187 and 680)
Magic and abilities
Gammon has no magic. He demonstrates trade negotiation, investment judgment, maritime-market knowledge, and willingness to test new technology. He relies on engineers and crews for operation; recognizing a product's value does not make him its inventor. (Chapters 187, 283, and 835)
Relationships
Margaret and the other Fjords merchants form Gammon's commercial circle. His dealings with Roland Wimbledon's representatives connect Crescent Moon Bay's capital and routes to Neverwinter's machines and goods. (Chapters 187, 680, and 835)
