Biography

A permanent sacrifice opens the underground

Fran transfers her soul into a Devouring Worm so the Taquila survivors can excavate, travel, and survive underground. The body consumes enormous quantities of food and cannot be maintained continuously, forcing her back into a soul container and an indefinite sleep whenever she is not needed; she accepts a harsher future than the original carriers for the group's continuation. When activated, Fran bores passages and warns expedition members of subterranean danger, making inaccessible spaces usable for Neverwinter's operations. Her appetite and dislike of storage preserve a forceful personality inside the monstrous form, but the corpus does not show a return to an ordinary human body. (Chapters 751, 810, and 844)

Appearance and personality

Fran's active body is a giant Devouring Worm rather than her original human form. Its scale and appetite are conspicuous, while her requests for hot seasoned food and complaints about sleep show that the person inside remains expressive and keenly aware of the sacrifice. (Chapter 751)

Magic and abilities

Fran's carrier can consume soil and open large underground passages, and its senses let her warn nearby allies. It is omnivorous and costly to feed; keeping it active indefinitely is impractical, and storing Fran's soul suspends her awareness. (Chapters 751, 810, and 844)
