Alethea
Alethea is the ancient witch consciousness in a carrier body. (Chapter 676)
Biography
Old certainties meet new evidence
Alethea reacted angrily to news that ordinary armies had defeated the Church, since it contradicted Taquila's inherited assumptions about the Battle of Divine Will. She nevertheless took part in the survivors' debate and later cooperation with Neverwinter, allowing evidence to reshape an initially hostile judgment. (Chapter 676)
Alliance after victory
Alethea's later response shows movement beyond her first disbelief. After Neverwinter's victory broke centuries of demon oppression, she approached Roland, bowed with her carrier body's main tentacle, and apologized for the Taquila survivors' earlier rudeness. Choosing acknowledgment over wounded pride made the wartime alliance a relationship that no longer required a merely defensive united front. (Chapter 1168)
Appearance and personality
Alethea's consciousness inhabits a large, many-tentacled carrier body kept among Taquila's other transferred survivors. Her anger at disconfirming news, followed by participation in debate, presents her as proud yet still responsive to evidence. (Chapter 676)
Magic and abilities
As a surviving consciousness, Alethea operates a nonhuman carrier body and shares Taquila's accumulated knowledge. The body grants capabilities unlike an ordinary human's, but separates her from normal human sensation and appearance. (Chapter 774)
Relationships
Alethea debates Elena and the other Taquila survivors over how to respond to the Church's defeat. Later contact with Roland's side changes that relationship from inherited suspicion to practical alliance. (Chapters 676, 1168)
