Marcus

Marcus is the dark-skinned greatsword warrior who fights beside Ethan in Lenora's Arcadia party. Initially jealous and suspicious of the newcomer, he earns mutual respect through the Rock Giants dungeon and chooses party unity over his desire for a rare class artifact. The death of his lover Emma makes him reckless during Arcadia's last battle, and although Beelzebub consumes the city, Marcus later reincarnates in another world and reunites with her there. (Chapters 9–72 and 448)

Biography

Invitation to A Narrow Escape

Marcus distrusts Ethan because Lenora forces an unreliable stranger into the party and then watches that newcomer take the attention once directed at him. He charges ahead to prove himself, but shared front-line combat replaces resentment with genuine curiosity and respect. When the party receives the Heart of the Earth, Marcus wants its rare Geomancer class yet concedes that Ethan deserves it more; after Ethan declines, Marcus accepts the artifact and uses its earth affinity to support the deeper dungeon push. (Chapters 9 and 43–52)

The beast invasion shifts Marcus from competitive teammate to grieving combatant. Emma's brutal death fills him with rage, and he joins the frontline to protect his surviving family and seek revenge, repeatedly charging dangerous hordes until Ethan follows to keep him alive. Marcus nevertheless stands beside the party against stronger Minotaurs and remains loyal to Emma when Cedric suggests another partner. Beelzebub's attack then devours the campsite containing Marcus and his family before Ethan can reach them. (Chapters 53 and 59–72)

Arrival Of The Iron Trio to In His Embrace.

Marcus does not appear directly after Arcadia's destruction. Aria's companions and Yona remember him among the party members presumed dead, while the surviving friends' reunion with Ethan emphasizes that Marcus, Cedric, and Iris did not visibly escape with them. This phase therefore develops his legacy rather than his agency: his absence helps define the cost of Arcadia and the divide between those saved by the Void treasure and those consumed at the camp. (Chapters 129 and 172)

Revival Of Arcadia City

When Aengus later revives Arcadia's dead, he deliberately leaves already reincarnated souls in their new lives. He tells Yona that Marcus is not among the restored citizens because fate has reunited him with Emma in another world. The corpus offers no scene from that incarnation, so his new identity, memories, body, and abilities are unknown; the confirmed consequence is that the loyalty he voiced after Emma's death receives a posthumous resolution without Aengus disrupting their rebirth. Appearance and personality

Marcus is a muscular, dark-skinned teenage boy who carries a greatsword and meets danger with a confident grin. He is hot-headed, proud of his front-line role, jealous of attention, and prone to acting before the formation is ready. Battle also exposes better qualities: he can revise his judgment of Ethan, surrender a coveted reward to the person he considers deserving, fight beside companions against hopeless odds, and remain unwaveringly devoted to Emma after her death. (Chapters 9 and 43–69)

Skills, laws, and abilities

Marcus serves as the party's tank and close-range front-line warrior. Thunder Stream Strike, also called Thunderstream Greatsword Strike, coats his greatsword in destructive electricity for heavy blows against stone enemies. He can coordinate the technique beside Ethan's flaming sword strike, but his desire to prove himself causes him to break formation, and grief later makes his swings frantic and reckless. His power is effective against peer-level dungeon monsters but insufficient against the strongest battlefield threats without party support. (Chapters 44–47 and 59–64)

The Heart of the Earth grants Marcus the Geomancer class and an Earth Heart that senses earth elements in surrounding walls. He becomes able to summon or command an Earth Elemental for distraction and battlefield spacing, while lava-infused earth feels angry, unstable, and resistant to his control. These interactions show environmental perception and earth-based summoning but do not establish a complete spell list, range, or capacity to dominate fire-corrupted terrain. (Chapters 48–50)

At level 20, Marcus selects the D-rank Earthquake Stomp skill from the Rock Titan's drops. The skill occupies an available slot rather than becoming a permanent bloodline ability, and the supplied scenes do not show its later activation. His death and reincarnation also prevent a supported claim that the Geomancer class, artifact, or learned skills carried into his next life. (Chapter 52 and Chapter 448)

Relationships

• Aengus Degaro: Marcus moves from hostility and envy toward Ethan to mutual respect forged in the dungeon. Ethan protects him during reckless charges and later leaves Marcus's reincarnated life undisturbed rather than summoning him back with Arcadia's other dead. (Chapters 43–64 and 448)
• Emma: Emma is Marcus's lover. Her death drives his rage during the beast invasion, and he rejects the idea that anyone could replace her; the later account says their souls reunite after reincarnation in another world. (Chapters 59–69 and 448)
• Cedric: Cedric directs Marcus's tank role, warns him when pride breaks formation, and continues fighting beside him through Arcadia's defense. He also tries unsuccessfully to console Marcus after Emma's death. (Chapters 44–69)
• Yona: Yona fights in the same party and identifies revenge for Marcus as one reason they join Arcadia's frontline. Years later she asks specifically whether he has been restored and learns of his reincarnation. (Chapters 9–69 and 448)
