Lark

Lark was a C-rank hunter, Mara's partner, and a member of Sofia's temporary trial party with Aengus. Cautious about the mysterious stranger joining them, he nevertheless entered the trial and died with Mara while trying to save a companion. (Chapters 150–174)

Biography

New Party (2) to Liar!

Lark joined the new party as its lean dual-sword fighter and treated Aengus's unclear origin and concealed strength as a real risk. He voiced suspicion, listened as Sofia accepted the gamble, and then worked within the group rather than undermining it, winning a colosseum match and sharing affectionate banter with Mara. Before the trial gate separated them, he reassured her and promised they would find each other. The reunion never came: Nate and Sofia later reported that Lark and Mara died while trying to save a companion during the crisis caused by Sigard's group. Their loss damaged the survivors' trust in Aengus's reassurance and became part of the grievance that led him to punish Sigard. (Chapters 150–174)

Appearance and personality

Lark has a lean hunter's build and carries two swords strapped across his back. His first response to Aengus is cautious rather than welcoming, reflecting an experienced fighter's concern about unexplained power and divided loyalties. He can also be playful and affectionate with Mara, and his promise at the gate shows protective confidence. The reported circumstances of his death indicate that caution did not prevent him from risking himself for a party member. (Chapters 150–158, 173–174)

Skills, laws, and abilities

Lark is a C-rank hunter trained to fight with paired swords. He proposes and wins a dual-sword contest in the colosseum, demonstrating practical close-quarters competence with both weapons. No named technique, skill grade, status panel, elemental law, or special movement mechanic is supplied, and his final battle is reported rather than shown; the text therefore supports neither a detailed attack sequence nor a claim that his swords alone could overcome the trial's stronger enemies. (Chapters 150–158, 173)

Relationships

  • Mara: Lark's romantic partner and closest companion. They enter the gate together and are later reported to have died in the same rescue attempt. (Chapters 150–158, 173)
  • Sofia: His party captain; Lark raises concerns about recruiting Aengus but accepts her decision. (Chapters 150–158)
  • Aengus Degaro: A powerful temporary teammate whom Lark regards cautiously. Lark's death later contributes to the party's anger and Aengus's retaliation against Sigard. (Chapters 150–174)
  • Nate: A surviving teammate who reports Lark's death and demands accountability from Sigard's group. (Chapters 173–174)
  • Sigard: His conduct during the treasure conflict is blamed for the conditions in which Lark and Mara die. (Chapter 173)

Items

Lark carries two swords as his regular weapons. The party discusses possessing holy weapons collectively, but the supplied evidence does not individually confirm the grade, names, enchantments, or later custody of Lark's blades, so they are described only as his demonstrated dual-sword equipment.
