Optimus

Optimus is the intelligence through which William's System communicates, analyzes information, and performs operational tasks. Although the System has assisted William since childhood, William gives it the name Optimus only after its CPU Core is upgraded in the Tower of Babylon. From then on, its increasingly individual voice accompanies functions ranging from appraisal and mapping to class management, domain administration, target tracking, and the eventual unlocking of the Strongest System. The narrative treats Optimus as an intelligence inside William's System and Sea of Consciousness, not as a human companion with an independent physical body; its creator and full ontology are not identified. Appearance and personality

Optimus has no established physical body. At its naming, the upgraded System communicates through William's status page and a small Gandamn-like image associated with the CPU Core. In William's Sea of Consciousness it is later narrated with anthropomorphic actions—sighing, pressing its hands together, and speaking—while rows of interface text appear before it. These scenes establish an internal representation, but not a body that other characters can ordinarily see or touch. (Chapters 601, 1454)

Before being named, the System uses a monotonous interface voice. Its CPU upgrade makes that voice sharper and more lifelike, and Optimus immediately displays dry humor, rejects William's careless name suggestions, and teases him when analysis confirms that he has been tricked. Its usual manner remains concise, analytical, and cooperative. It understands William's intent from long association and will spend resources or execute morally severe orders when he authorizes them, but it also offers independent recommendations. Its final sigh and declaration suggest investment in William's survival; the text does not establish that its emotions or inner experience work exactly like a human's. Biography

Kraetor and the Tower of Babylon

The System has supported William since childhood, but its transition into Optimus occurs on the Tower of Babylon's Floor of Creation. William asks it to find a way to reproduce or smuggle out a giant robot; the System analyzes the floor's Law of Creation and searches the God Shop, yet reports that neither route can achieve what he wants. When William's Divinities upgrade the CPU Core, the System imports its interface preferences, gains a more lifelike voice, and asks for a name. William chooses “Optimus,” and the newly named intelligence accepts it despite rejecting several unserious alternatives. The change opens a completion-rate progression tied to William's milestones, making Optimus's growth explicitly interdependent with its host's. (Chapter 601)

That partnership becomes more personalized without ceasing to be operational. Because Optimus has known William for most of his life, it recognizes his unspoken intentions and selects the optimal classes when he orders a job merger during the tower crisis. It also acts as a skeptical second judgment: after William takes a suspicious black box from a treasure vault, Optimus tells him that he was duped, continuously scans the object, and distinguishes a preliminary negative result from proof that it is safe. When the Seven Tablets of Creation emerge, Optimus cannot identify them through Appraisal alone, but later calculates which divine avatars William can summon under his currently equipped job classes. The Grand Alliance and the War of Destruction

As William's responsibilities expand, Optimus moves from personal interface support to large-scale intelligence and administration. It maps unfamiliar territory, searches cities for specified targets, estimates an enemy's chance of survival, evaluates recovery times, and manages exploration and construction inside the Thousand Beast Domain. Its recommendations can conserve enormous resources—for example, prioritizing electrical and plumbing infrastructure instead of spending astronomical God Points to rebuild the Deadlands wholesale. It also locks onto escape coordinates, records speech and multiple forms of thought when the applicable trial exposes them, and tracks souls or distant presences for William. These functions make Optimus a continual operational partner, but William still chooses the objectives, accepts costs, and acts on the resulting information. During the final conflicts, Optimus's calculations repeatedly turn William's intent into immediate action. It finds Celine through the clouds over the tower, marks Felix's departing soul with a tracker designed to persist through repeated deaths, and detects hidden observers from afar. Its culmination comes when William lies broken before Surtr: inside the Sea of Consciousness, Optimus sees that the necessary requirements have been met, completes the startup sequence, and invokes its own authority to begin unlocking the Strongest System. This does not make Optimus the combatant who defeats the enemy, but it releases the System state for which it and William have progressed together since the naming, converting their long partnership into the mechanism that gives William another chance to act. System interface and progression

Optimus operates William's status interface, database searches, class selection, and completion-rate progression. After being named, it begins at a three-percent completion rate; the System states that it will grow as William becomes stronger and passes milestones, with threshold bonuses and true abilities reserved for full completion. Optimus can merge job classes and choose combinations judged optimal for William's intent, but the resulting classes and attributes belong to William rather than to a personal combat build of Optimus. Analysis, appraisal, and surveillance

Optimus scans people, objects, structures, and territory; maps locations; calculates coordinates and recovery periods; detects distant presences; records exposed speech, thoughts, and “heart's voice”; and estimates probabilities from available data. It can also find members of a designated group and place persistent trackers on targets. These outputs vary in certainty: a scan may return no result, a probability remains an estimate, and insufficient data or imposed restrictions can prevent Optimus from identifying a person even when it records the available evidence. Domain and logistical administration

Within William's System-linked holdings, Optimus administers construction, expansion, exploration, and resource planning. William assigns it to expand the Thousand Beast Domain for new forces and monitor the Dungeon of Atlantis; Optimus reports where exploration has stalled and why, rather than claiming progress beyond the available army's strength. In the Deadlands reconstruction it recommends limited infrastructure spending that restores basic services without exhausting God Points. • William: Optimus's host, namer, and lifelong partner. It interprets his intent, manages System functions, offers analysis and advice, and ultimately invokes the Strongest System when William meets its requirements. Their progression is linked, but William remains responsible for the objectives and actions Optimus enables. (Chapters 601, 629, 1000, 1313, 1454)
• Celine: Optimus calculates Celine's exact location through obscuring clouds when William orders an emergency rescue, allowing him to reach the top of the tower. (Chapter 1313)
• Felix: At William's command, Optimus places a tracker on Felix's departing soul and states the condition under which it could finally be lost. This is surveillance for William, not a personal rivalry. (Chapter 1313)

Items

Optimus has no personal physical inventory established in the corpus. It can search the God Shop, appraise or scan equipment, and display item information through William's interface, but those functions do not make the objects it catalogs its property. The CPU Core, status page, completion rate, and God Points are components or resources of the System rather than carried equipment belonging to an independent physical character. Mechanics and limitations

• Optimus depends on William's System connection. In restricted locations such as the Deadlands and Ahriman's Domain, William cannot speak to it or access the status page; communication returns after he leaves the suppressing territory. (Chapters 856, 1102)
• Appraisal and scanning are not omniscient. The Seven Tablets initially defeat both William's and Optimus's Appraisal, preliminary scans cannot prove an object harmless, and insufficient data can block identification. (Chapters 646, 1295)
