Qian Chen
Qian Chen is a shrewd, comically obsequious cultivator who meets Su Ming while managing mundane affairs for Evil Spirit Sect. His opportunism gradually gives way to genuine attachment to the Ninth Summit, and a reunion more than a millennium later shows that fear and self-interest have not erased his loyalty.
Biography
From sect functionary to Ninth Summit friend
Qian Chen greets the disguised Chen Su with flattering offers of administrative posts while quietly testing whether the newcomer threatens his lucrative control of spirit-stone distribution. He is tactful, greedy, and inclined to bully the weak while avoiding the strong, but shared danger draws him into Su Ming's circle. Life at the Ninth Summit turns what once seemed bleak into memories he treasures. When Morning Dao forces attack, Qian Chen faces the prospect of eternal slumber with the summit's inhabitants and survives only to watch Su Ming leave. He cries and swears to become stronger, then eventually returns to his native Expanse Cosmos. (Chapters 606–746)
Reunion and revenge in True Sky Hill World
Su Ming later finds Qian Chen living behind the same deferential mask in Harmonious Morus Alba. Qian Chen initially fears that this is another Child of Morus Alba rather than his friend, but a private memory of Yu Xuan and the Abyss Dragon proves Su Ming's identity. He explains that he originally entered the Berserker world by accident through Bright Yang Vortex and provides information about familiar counterparts across the Expanse. (Chapters 1261–1262)
Qian Chen then names sects and powerful cultivators who oppressed him. He expects limited revenge, but Su Ming destroys entire sects and Li Tian Wang with overwhelming ease. Qian Chen's excitement gives way to terror as he understands the scale of his friend's power. When greater enemies approach, he accepts that staying would only create danger and leaves after a restrained farewell. His final independent fate is not recorded. (Chapters 1262–1268)
Appearance and personality
At their reunion Qian Chen is middle-aged, with small beady eyes and an instinctively obsequious expression. He is calculating, pleasure-loving, and acutely sensitive to hierarchy. Yet he is also emotionally loyal, decisive when retreat is necessary, and capable of carrying grief for centuries. (Chapters 606, 746, 1261, 1265)
Abilities and cultivation
Qian Chen can fly through space and survives as a cultivator across long ages, but his exact realm and personal divine abilities are not named. His travel speed is far below Su Ming's, who must sweep him along to cross True Sky Hill efficiently. He openly recognizes that he would be useless against the enemies arriving after Li Tian Wang's death, establishing a clear limit on his later strength. (Chapters 1262, 1265)
His administrative skill is learned rather than martial: he manages spirit stones, purchases, and personnel while using social instincts to protect his position. This makes him useful in sect life but offers no protection against high-realm combatants. (Chapter 606)
Relationships
- Su Ming: Their wary first meeting develops into sincere friendship. Su Ming later accepts Qian Chen's enemies as his own, while Qian Chen supplies local knowledge and knows when to withdraw. (Chapters 606–746, 1261–1268)
- Ninth Summit: Its destruction transforms an accidental companion into someone determined to grow stronger. (Chapters 744–746)
- Yu Xuan and the Abyss Dragon: Memories of their comic hierarchy provide the private test that authenticates Su Ming. (Chapter 1261)
Items
No named personal artifact is securely assigned to Qian Chen. The spirit stones he once distributes belong to his sect administration rather than to him individually. (Chapter 606)
