Abyss Dragon
The Abyss Dragon is a rare World Traversing Spirit who hides as Yu Xuan's big yellow dog. Its ability to cross the barriers between True Worlds makes it both a valued companion and a target. After punishment strips that power and exile nearly kills it, Su Ming rescues it in Divine Essence Star Ocean. It later forms a quarrelsome but genuine friendship with the Bald Crane. (Chapters 720–800, 819–1104, and 1261–1357)
Biography
From Yu Xuan's guardian to exile
Su Ming's second senior brother identifies Yu Xuan's “mutt” as an Abyss Dragon stronger than a World Traversing dragon once used for an Origin Scale. Its ability offers a route out of Yin Death Region, but its first loyalty is to Yu Xuan, whom it carries away when she returns toward the Emperor of Abyss' True World. There the Lord of Abyss condemns it for a great sin, disables its world-traversing power, chains it, and banishes it to the Barren Lands. Its former strength at completed initial World Plane Realm falls to Man Cultivation output, and its Dragon Tendon is removed. (Chapters 720–800)
Hunters exploit its weakness for blood, memories, and a potential flying vessel. Near death after centuries of injuries, it recognizes Su Ming's call of “Xiao Huang.” He restores its dispersing soul and wounds, punishes its pursuers, and gives it safety. The dragon thereafter travels with Su Ming and the Bald Crane, joining their battles while often returning to yellow-dog form. (Chapters 819–1104)
Friendship at the end of the aeon
By the dying aeon, the dragon has largely recovered and remains the Bald Crane's constant companion despite their cycle of bullying and retaliation. It crosses to the far bank of the River of Forgetfulness, then panics when the crane hesitates to follow. When Su Ming and the crane leave to witness Harmonious Morus Alba's destruction, the dragon remains on the bank in tears, promised another future adventure. Its last scene leaves it alive beside a newly appeared woman in white. (Chapters 1261–1357)
Appearance and personality
Its true form is a large Abyss Dragon capable of carrying travelers; during exile it is scarred, bloodied, chained, and mistaken for a large snake. Its habitual disguise is a big yellow dog that wags its tail, while combat can reveal the dragon in an instant. (Chapters 720–800 and 819–1104)
The dragon is loyal, emotional, and capable of the same shameless ambushes as the Bald Crane. It remembers Yu Xuan as its most precious person, cries on reunion with Su Ming, and fears losing its companion at the River. Its comic submission to the crane develops into reciprocal attachment. (Chapters 819–1104 and 1289–1357)
Abilities and cultivation
As a World Traversing Spirit, the Abyss Dragon can cross barriers between the four Great True Worlds and carry others, the ability Yu Xuan once uses to travel. The Lord of Abyss disables this gift during exile, so later movement cannot be assumed to retain its original freedom. (Chapters 720 and 800)
At its peak it had completed the initial World Plane Realm, and its dragon body could contend somewhat with a middle-stage World Plane cultivator without winning. After abrogation it can use only Man Cultivation power and is vulnerable even to ordinary Divine Essence hunters. Su Ming restores body and soul, and it is “mostly recovered” later, but no exact returned realm is confirmed. It can transform between dragon and dog forms and devour a victim's soul and Nascent Divinity through its bite. (Chapters 800–820, 1033, and 1289)
Relationships
- Yu Xuan: Its young mistress and deepest loyalty; it transports and protects her before its punishment.
- Su Ming: An old acquaintance who rescues it from exile, restores its soul, and gives it a place among his companions.
- Bald Crane: Their bullying, schemes, and fights develop into friendship strong enough that the dragon tries to cross back through the River barrier for it.
Items
- Dragon Tendon: Taken from the Abyss Dragon before Su Ming finds it. Its loss cripples the dragon and is not a voluntary transfer or an item it later carries.
