Peak Sword

Peak Sword, whose real name is Kang Daehan, is a Korean ranker, former master of the Silver Knights Guild, and one of the ten meritorious retainers of Overgeared. His quick-draw class concentrates its power into extraordinarily fast, damaging strikes, while his leadership, loyalty to Grid, and willingness to accept personal costs make him a dependable commander and comrade. (Chapters 1, 400, 605, and 974)

Biography

Reidan and the Overgeared Alliance

Peak Sword first appears as the sixteenth-ranked player and master of the Silver Knights, leading two hundred elites into their sixth attempt against Hell Gao on Cork Island. He is frightened because he knows the boss has overwhelmed them before, yet he suppresses that fear to steady his guild. Grid's unexpected arrival initially makes Peak Sword suspicious, but the raid forces him to reassess the stranger. He protects Grid from Hell Gao with his drawing techniques, accepts Grid's improvised plan, and mines fire stones to weaken the boss. Once he realizes Grid is the Korean player behind Pagma's Descendant, his national pride becomes a personal desire to help Grid survive and grow. After the victory, he gives Grid the valuable fire stone he mined out of gratitude for saving his life and ranking, and he protects Grid's identity from his own guild members. (Chapters 1 and 163–169)

That encounter develops into lasting support rather than a one-raid debt. Peak Sword brings the Silver Knights into the alliance that becomes Overgeared, entrusting the guild and Cork Island to Grid and applying his own organizational experience to the new group. During the second National Competition, Grid trusts Peak Sword and Yura to survive a high-risk opening against many opposing teams. Peak Sword answers that trust by directing the Korean formation, holding defensive positions, and using his draw attacks to compensate for the team's numerical and level disadvantages. Although his class's recovery gap and the competition's balancing patch limit him, the experience establishes him as a field leader whose greatest value emerges when allies can cover that gap. (Chapters 369, 408–414, 419, 423, 429, and 470)

Kingdom Building and the Great Demons

When Lauel concludes that distant Cork Island cannot be defended during the war with Eternal, Peak Sword refuses to abandon the territory without resistance. The island holds the Silver Knights' history and provides valuable mines and taxes, so he asks for only ten former guildmates and accepts stalled leveling, repeated deaths, and heavy expenses to delay its capture and reduce the burden on Overgeared. He applies experience from the conflict with the Sakura Guild to naval defense, exhausts himself supporting Cork Island's soldiers, and mines at night both to gather resources and to raise his stamina and persistence. His mining uncovers an infiltration route; by adapting his draw-sword stance to Grid's pickaxe, he destroys the infiltrating R77 force and turns Soldier's defection into an advantage against Eternal's navy. (Chapters 508, 511, and 544–550)

The defense succeeds beyond Lauel's expectations, but Blood Carnival attacks after the exhausted defenders celebrate. Tarma assassinates Peak Sword, and Cork Island is ultimately destroyed. Peak Sword returns in tears and blames his refusal to withdraw for making the loss irreversible; Lauel instead accepts responsibility for failing to anticipate the third party's intervention. The episode changes Peak Sword's place in Overgeared: the defense earns him recognition as a meritorious retainer, while the island's destruction ends his role as its guardian. He subsequently uses the same persistence socially, repeatedly visiting Eat Spicy Jokbal and urging him to apply his talent for both Overgeared and South Korea; that relationship helps move the former Blood Carnival founder toward a different course. (Chapters 584, 593, 605, 695, and 716)

East Continent and Imperial Reckoning

At the third National Competition, Peak Sword carries the stigma of having been called useless despite being a world-class player. He accepts a match against a reconstruction of the previous year's Kraugel, knowing his long post-attack delay makes a fast opponent especially dangerous. Using Iyarugt and its sheath in an intoxicated state, he commits to two attacks that each cost half his health; missing either would waste the attempt, but both connect and defeat the Hero in just over a minute. The strain kills his avatar and leaves him physically shaken after logout, yet he wins gold and credits Grid's equipment rather than claiming the reversal for himself. The result restores his public standing while reinforcing his belief that equipment can let persistent players overcome limits imposed by talent and class design. (Chapters 760–762)

As an Overgeared retainer, Peak Sword's duties broaden beyond tournaments. He teaches swordsmanship, commands combat groups, and serves with Vantner as a gate guard for the evil eyes king. Boredom and impatience do not make him abandon the assignment: when assassins seize children, he attempts an immediate rescue, identifies that the attackers are outside the empire's armistice protections, sends the children into the castle, and remains at the gate because protecting the king takes priority over chasing the broader battle. Against stronger imperial knights, he and Vantner order their soldiers to safety rather than trade irreplaceable NPC lives for the players' recoverable ones. Even while badly wounded, Peak Sword directs Iyarugt to protect those soldiers, and the guards survive with Faker's intervention. (Chapters 882, 974, and 978–979)

Yangbans, Gods, and New Legends

Peak Sword eventually turns his patriotism into recruitment and instruction. He apprentices the talented Dae Dokman and prepares young members of the Korean Patriotic Association as future support for the Overgeared Kingdom. His own experience has made his view of strength less simplistic: when Eat Spicy Jokbal attributes his success to being overgeared, Peak Sword embraces the term, arguing that items exist for people whose effort is otherwise denied by differences in talent and luck. This attitude preserves his enthusiasm while giving it a practical purpose—building people and organizations that can reinforce Overgeared rather than relying only on its existing stars. (Chapters 1273 and 1282)

Grid later summons Peak Sword into Fire Dragon Trauka's lair to mine a unique fire stone. Peak Sword's mining proficiency is now higher than Grid's, so he recognizes that haste will damage the mineral and takes control of the extraction. With only moments remaining, he wedges his hand into the wall and continues levering the stone free even as the pressure fractures and crushes that hand. The choice secures the resource and allows Braham to teleport the group away in time. Peak Sword dismisses his pain afterward, but Grid's concern reveals how their relationship has changed since Hell Gao: the ranker once saved by Grid has become a specialist whom Grid trusts in a dragon's lair, and whose self-sacrifice Grid now asks him to restrain. (Chapters 1273–1274)

Apostles, Dragons, and the Overgeared World

During the expedition into hell, Peak Sword operates as part of a coordinated force rather than merely pursuing individual victories. His sword light clears groups of demonic creatures, and his large-scale effectiveness makes him one of the people selected for withdrawal when the expedition deteriorates. Other fighters also adapt his style: Kraugel draws inspiration from his quick draw, while Peak Sword and Luck combine sword-drawing speed with a counter to create Twin Fang Strike and seriously wound Eligos. Peak Sword has meanwhile spent years raising Iyarugt, not simply for a stronger weapon but because fully restoring the sealed swordsman's soul would give Grid a powerful ally who, as a pet, would not carry the same permanent-death risk as an NPC. That long investment helps Iyarugt confront Zepar, although Gamigin's intervention prevents an immediate release. (Chapters 1468 and 1489–1494)

Peak Sword shows the same loyalty when Gamigin threatens a wounded Braham. Concluding that Braham only needs an opening to teleport, he leaves a protected position, accepts repeated wounds, and launches a draw attack at the fourth Great Demon. His strike redirects Gamigin away from Braham; Peak Sword is relieved by the diversion rather than the wound he inflicts, because he has already accepted that the attack will kill him. Braham instead returns to intercept the counterattack and objects to Peak Sword throwing himself away. Peak Sword then adjusts to a supporting role, guarding commanders from assassins and recognizing that the expedition's shifting formation makes his contribution meaningful even when he is not its strongest fighter. Later, under Zik's real-time buffs, he trusts an evasive instruction he does not understand, survives the incoming magic, and immediately turns the restored attack buff into a battlefield-cleaving draw. (Chapters 1499, 1506, and 1666)

Baal, Asgard, and the Complete Ending

In the late wars, Peak Sword remains part of the Overgeared core supporting Grid against enemies beyond ordinary player standards. After Baal's defeat, he recognizes that Grid is exhausted and joins the friends urging him to rest. His own competitive instincts remain intact: at Eat Spicy Jokbal's tower he repeatedly resets his climb to seek better buffs, briefly reaches power comparable to a high-ranking transcendent inside the tower, and good-naturedly provokes Grid with his ranking. The competition is secondary to solidarity; Peak Sword's concern is that the wider guild continue growing rather than leaving every impossible burden to Grid. (Chapters 1865–1866)

That responsibility becomes explicit in the dragon conflict. With Cranbel's Dragon Words and a weapon made by Grid, Peak Sword cuts through the gap between dragon scales, proving the Overgeared force can affect its enemies. He then helps intercept Kubartos's tail to protect Kraugel and accepts his own likely death when Kubartos retaliates, judging Kraugel's survival more valuable. Biban rescues him, but Peak Sword's attack raises his status and helps the guild recognize the war as an opportunity for collective growth. By the final period, Peak Sword is still an active comrade: he assists the empire's reconstruction, answers the mobilization for Asgard, and in reality steadies Huroi before Grid's wedding by reminding him that Grid's trust is itself proof of his qualification. (Chapters 1911, 2048, and 2057)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not establish a stable, detailed physical description for Peak Sword. It more consistently presents his expressive bearing: he can enter battle with solemn focus, become visibly animated by Korean achievements or Grid's successes, and show tears or embarrassment without protecting a ranker's public dignity. Younger Korean players initially imagine him as an imposing hero, then find him approachable and almost neighborly in person. (Chapters 593, 753, and 760)

Peak Sword is intensely patriotic, outspoken, and sometimes tactless, but his nationalism is paired with concrete service rather than rhetoric alone. He spends his resources, accepts lost growth, recruits and mentors players, and repeatedly risks his avatar for people or territory he believes he must protect. His impulsiveness and impatience can expose him to danger, yet he also possesses a guild master's situational awareness and can subordinate pride to duty: he admits when an enemy has a legitimate grievance, protects finite-lived soldiers ahead of himself, and asks difficult questions when he fears Grid may regret a decision. (Chapters 508, 974, 978–979, 1282, and 1529)

Abilities, classes, and skills

Peak Sword is a Quick Draw Swordsman whose offense is built around attacks launched from a sheathed position. The class trades sustained versatility for exceptional first-strike speed and power; equipment and team support can reduce, but do not erase, the vulnerable recovery interval. (Chapters 414 and 470)

Quick Draw Swordsmanship

Peak Sword activates his central techniques by taking a drawing stance and moving the blade from sheath to target along the shortest path. The resulting strike can project sword energy beyond normal melee reach, and its acceleration can make the attack effectively complete before observers recognize the draw. The class bonus can also apply when he draws a suitably shaped tool, which lets him use a combat pickaxe with his familiar mechanics. The limitation is structural: he cannot link another draw attack until the blade returns to its sheath, his ordinary Sword Mastery is weaker than that of a general swordsman, and without a usable sheath he has no comparable attack skill. His strongest techniques also consume substantial mana and have long cooldowns, so agile opponents can attack during recovery. In later combat he compensates by defending with the sheath, using acceleration buffs, dodging, or relying on allies to cover the gap. (Chapters 414, 470, 544–545, and 1819)

Annihilate is his principal finishing strike. It can travel through multiple enemies in front of him and delivers enough concentrated force to critically wound rankers, break heavily defended targets under allied buffs, or erase groups of demons. Sudden is a fast projected surprise attack used from outside immediate sword range, while String cuts a focused target and Breadth releases sword energy around him as the blade is re-sheathed. Five Combined Strikes replaces the single decisive cut with five rapid attacks, killing five attackers in one demonstrated use. The corpus names these variants and shows their effects, but does not fully explain how the class derives or distributes their sword energy. (Chapters 164, 168, 414, 423, 960, 976, and 1666)

Equipment-assisted burst and progression

Several of Peak Sword's most extreme results are item-assisted rather than innate. A speed-enhancing sheath shortens the time needed to recover for another draw, directly mitigating the class's defining weakness. Iyarugt and its dedicated sheath can enter an intoxicated state that raises the sword's attack power by 500 percent, but the demonstrated Hero challenge consumes half of Peak Sword's health each time the sword is retrieved; two hits defeat the reconstructed Kraugel and also kill Peak Sword. A later Blue Dragon gauntlet can trigger Lightning Speed, doubling a draw attack's power at the cost of 12 percent of his health and a five-second one-arm fracture. The gauntlet is growth-type, but after eight months it has gained only 20 percent experience, showing that its hoped-for mitigation of the penalty remains slow and uncertain. (Chapters 414, 760–762, and 921)

Peak Sword's long use of Iyarugt also restores the sealed swordsman's soul through named-boss victories. After five breakthroughs, Iyarugt can briefly use Sublime Sword at roughly four times the power of Annihilate, though the soul warns that destruction of its sword medium may free it or destroy its body—the outcome is unknown. By the dragon war, Peak Sword's own focus, a dragon weapon made by Grid, allied reinforcement, and Cranbel's Dragon Words let his sword light pass between dragon scales. The strike does not make him a dragon slayer, and overextension immediately leaves him unable to resist a top dragon's counterattack, but it raises his status and proves his burst damage can affect a dragon under exceptional conditions. (Chapters 976, 978–979, and 1911)

Leadership, training, and mining

Peak Sword has battlefield awareness developed through leading the Silver Knights. He can select defensible ground, organize a vanguard, direct evacuation and protection priorities, command naval defenses, and train swordsmen; in the Overgeared Empire he leads a dedicated rapid-draw unit. These skills do not eliminate his emotional decisions, but they let him convert personal resolve into coordinated action. (Chapters 429, 470, 544, 882, and 1443)

Mining begins as an improvised task during the Hell Gao raid and develops into a genuine secondary proficiency. Peak Sword learns to identify vulnerable points around embedded minerals, raises stamina and persistence through repeated labor, and combines the draw-class bonus with compatible tools. His proficiency eventually exceeds Grid's enough for him to judge the safe extraction pace of the fire stone in Trauka's lair and improvise a lever extraction under a strict time limit. This expertise is practical rather than magical; speed alone can damage a mineral, and the dragon-lair extraction succeeds only by accepting severe physical injury. (Chapters 165–166, 544, and 1273)

Relationships

  • Grid: Peak Sword moves from suspicion to gratitude and then enduring loyalty after the Hell Gao raid. He entrusts Grid with his guild and territory, promotes him publicly, and repeatedly accepts danger to reduce Grid's burdens; Grid in turn trusts his leadership and specialist skills, equips him, and worries about his self-sacrifice. (Chapters 163–169, 511, and 1273–1274)
  • Lauel: Lauel values Peak Sword's persistence and leadership even when his emotional commitments conflict with strategic priorities. Their disagreement over Cork Island ends in mutual trust, and Lauel later relies on him as a commander and retainer. (Chapters 508 and 593)
  • Vantner: Vantner is Peak Sword's frequent partner in guard and battlefield duties. They share impatience and comic friction, but coordinate their class strengths and consistently protect soldiers and civilians before themselves. (Chapters 974 and 978–979)
  • Yura: Yura and Peak Sword are long-standing Korean teammates. Grid repeatedly relies on them together in National Competition operations, where Yura's ranged pressure and Peak Sword's burst attacks cover different tactical needs. (Chapters 414, 419, and 423)
  • Kraugel: Peak Sword measures his progress against Kraugel's exceptional skill. Defeating the reconstructed Hero marks Peak Sword's public reversal, while later battles show mutual influence and cooperation rather than simple rivalry. (Chapters 760–762, 1489, and 1911)
  • Jishuka: Jishuka and Peak Sword fight together across national, imperial, hell, and dragon conflicts. She helps center group formations and sharply pulls him back to awareness when his excitement makes him overextend. (Chapters 1012, 1468, and 1911)
  • Braham: Peak Sword risks certain death to create an escape opening for a wounded Braham against Gamigin. Braham instead saves him and rebukes the sacrifice, making their mutual regard visible beneath the magician's irritation. (Chapter 1499)
  • Iyarugt: Peak Sword spends years restoring the sealed swordsman's soul so Grid can gain a powerful ally without risking an NPC's permanent death. Their partnership combines harsh banter, item-mediated combat, and Peak Sword's sustained commitment to Iyarugt's release. (Chapters 976, 978–979, and 1493–1494)
