Marchosias

Marchosias is the 29th Great Demon and ruler of the Hell entered by Yura. Once an ambitious lover of struggle, defeat by Zepar teaches him his limits and turns him into a defensive, endurance-focused ruler. Grid fights him alone and kills him after a prolonged raid. (Chapters 1328–1331 and 1342)

Biography

Role in Yangbans, Gods, and New Legends

Marchosias confronts Yura after she brings Baal into his territory and returns soon afterward. He treats the repeated intrusion as tyranny and warns that she has crossed a line. In his own Hell, his strength exceeds the surface manifestation of the 13th Great Demon Beleth, establishing the importance of location to the hierarchy being compared. (Chapter 1328)

His present caution comes from earlier failure. Marchosias once sought a deeper Hell and more armies because he enjoyed combat, but the wanderer Zepar defeated him and briefly took the 29th Hell. The loss teaches Marchosias that some opponents cannot be overcome and extinguishes much of his former appetite for struggle. (Chapter 1329)

Grid nevertheless forces a raid. Marchosias' defensive nature and continuous supply of demonic energy give him nearly inexhaustible endurance, so Grid tries to end the battle without allowing it to become an attritional contest. The fight still feels exceptionally long and repeatedly creates crises, but Grid eventually wins alone. (Chapters 1330–1331)

Later, Botis has heard the rumor that Marchosias died and asks Grid if he was responsible. The reference confirms the raid's result without providing any later resurrection or new manifestation. (Chapter 1342)

Appearance and personality

Marchosias can petrify his body into a huge, mountain-like defensive form, but the bounded source excerpts otherwise provide little facial or clothing detail. He is territorial, cautious, and disillusioned: past ambition gives way to a strong awareness of limits and a preference against pointless death. (Chapters 1328–1330)

Abilities, classes, and skills

As a defensive great demon in his own Hell, Marchosias has tremendous durability, near-infinite endurance while supplied with demonic energy, and petrification that hardens skin, muscles, and skeleton.
