Duke Steim

Duke Steim is the long-serving lord of the north, Irene's father, and Grid's father-in-law. His laws and military authority protect a harsh frontier, while his alliance with Grid helps transfer the north from the Eternal Kingdom into the Overgeared state. Biography

Pagma's Legacy and Winston

Before appearing directly, Steim is established through the trust of his subjects. His Rights of the People require residents to receive timely information about changes affecting their land, giving Winston's citizens a legal and moral basis to oppose the corrupt local lord and Mero Company. When the abuses reach him, he executes the principal offenders, reforms Winston's administration, and even imprisons Rabbit despite Rabbit's helpful turn because complicity still requires punishment. Steim comes to Winston after Yatan attacks expose its weak defenses and reunites with his only daughter.
