Alex

Alex is the legendary Demon Slayer who preceded Yura. In life he invades Hell, defeats or subdues demons, and eventually challenges Baal with excessive confidence. After death, Pagma raises a weakened remnant as the 62nd Behen Archipelago guardian, where Grid defeats him. Alex's gun and lessons pass to Yura, whose later caution allows her to surpass him without repeating his direct approach to Baal. (Chapters 371–372, 675–677, 692, 1323, 1329, 1420, and 1839)

Biography

Recurring role and later consequences

Alex first enters the story through equipment preserved by his friend Sticks. Sticks gives the former Demon Slayer's youthful magic engineering gun to Yura so she can fulfill her class's potential against Tiramet. The weapon's dwarf technology, transformation modes, and mana conversion immediately let her injure a vampire whose old wound from Alex never healed. This inheritance establishes Alex as a predecessor whose work survives materially and whose anti-demon class properties can be carried forward without claiming that Yura's individual feats were his. Grid later encounters Alex's death knight on the Behen Archipelago's 62nd island. The guardian opens with an accurate four-shot ambush, shifts between gun and sword as Grid closes distance, and combines extraordinary basic speed with force. Pagma's command—to protect the archipelago from great demons and save humanity—has replaced Alex's living judgment, so the remnant attacks relentlessly. Even after losing an arm, he withdraws while firing, changes modes, and uses a sniper shot that forces Grid's immortality, demonstrating how much technique remains despite death. (Chapters 675–676)

The victory also establishes severe limitations. Death Knight Alex retains combat habits but has lost most of his living skills, levels, and stats; Sticks estimates that the opponent who pressured Grid is only a fraction of the original legend. Grid ultimately destroys the guardian and later sees Alex's image among the purified former legends. The archipelago encounter is therefore not Alex's return to independent life. It is the end of Pagma's controlled remnant and a measure of how formidable the living Demon Slayer must have been. (Chapters 676–677 and 692)

Accounts from Hell fill in that earlier career. Alex invades hundreds of years before Yura, cuts off a demon's hands, and binds the survivor with a loyalty contract rather than killing him. His repeated confrontations with Marbas's forces turn attempts to stop him into opportunities for rapid growth, until he becomes strong enough to challenge Baal. These actions show boldness, adaptability, and deep penetration into hostile territory, but they also establish the confidence that later becomes his decisive error. (Chapters 1323 and 1420)

Yura develops Alex's legacy without copying his judgment. She layers accuracy, reinforcement, acceleration, evil-destruction, and penetration buffs through his magic engineering gun while fighting in Hell. By the later assault on Baal, the current Demon Slayer has surpassed Alex. Baal identifies the difference as caution: Alex came before him under the illusion that a powerful human must be superior to a demon, whereas Yura studies his failures, remains hidden, and prepares the battlefield. Alex's latest relevance is thus consequential and posthumous—the failed predecessor whose strength and mistake teach his successor how to win. (Chapters 1329 and 1839)

Appearance and personality

Alex's preserved image shows a lonely-looking man whose expression suggests a deep wound. As a death knight, his body is skeletal and animated by Pagma's command; damage can tear away limbs without producing ordinary human pain or retreat. In life, Alex is brave, forceful, and dangerously self-confident. He enters Hell repeatedly, grows through opposition, and challenges its strongest ruler directly, believing his superiority to demons is sufficient. As a death knight, personality and reason are largely absent, leaving disciplined combat habits and an uncompromising mission. Abilities, classes, and skills

As a Demon Slayer, Alex specializes in destroying demons and demonkin, leaving wounds that resist their exceptional regeneration. His magic engineering gun supports pistol, rifle, bayonet, and sniper functions, while jade magic bullets combine accuracy with anti-evil force. The death knight remnant fires four basic attacks per second, changes seamlessly between ranged and melee forms, produces magic explosions, uses continuous fire, and makes a long-aimed sniper attack certain to hit. His living class contained many more skills than the remnant could access. (Chapters 371–372 and 675–677)

Alex's surviving equipment and reputation show both mechanics and progression. He uses contracts to bind defeated demons, grows rapidly when Marbas repeatedly sends forces against him, and eventually reaches Baal. Yet the remnant has sharply reduced stats and skills, explosive damage is especially effective against its undead body, and Grid's items can intercept the gun's high accuracy. The greatest limit is strategic: Alex mistakes the ability to dominate lesser demons for proof that he can confront Baal openly. Relationships

Yura is Alex's successor as Demon Slayer. She receives his gun, reproduces the class's anti-demon pressure, and learns from the path he left through Hell. Her eventual superiority comes not from a claim that Alex lacked power, but from caution that avoids his fatal decision to approach Baal directly. (Chapters 371–372, 1329, and 1839)

Sticks is Alex's former close friend and custodian of his youthful gun. He gives the weapon to Yura because she is Grid's colleague and later helps Grid interpret how much weaker Pagma's death knight is than Alex in life. (Chapters 371–372 and 675–677)

Grid fights only the death-knight remnant, not the living legend. Alex's preserved speed, accuracy, and sniper mode force Grid into a difficult battle, but Grid adapts and purifies the guardian. He later fights beside the successor shaped by Alex's equipment and failures. (Chapters 675–677, 692, and 1839)

Baal is the opponent Alex ultimately approaches with misplaced certainty. That encounter becomes the failure Yura studies most closely, and Baal himself later explains that her refusal to appear openly makes her harder to handle than Alex. (Chapter 1839)
