Yumpa

Yumpa is the 200th Academy cadet, used in Chun Yuchan's attempt to deceive and isolate Chun Yeowun.

Biography

The False Recruitment

Yumpa approaches Chun Yeowun as the two-hundredth cadet from the Moon Energy Blade Clan. He offers a private duel, information about the third test, and a small gift if Yeowun wins. Although Yumpa expects a meaningful contest, Yeowun seizes his energy-filled wrist and throws him into the ground before his blade formation begins. Yumpa accepts the loss and accurately explains that the next test will require a group to learn a shared high-grade art. (Chapters 37–38)

The useful information supports a deeper lie. Yumpa claims he tested other princes but omitted the Blade Clan because he disliked all six-clan candidates. In reality he reports directly to Chun Yuchan. His plan is to enter Yeowun's group and abandon it on test day so the remaining membership falls below the requirement and fails automatically. Yeowun notices Yumpa's repeated blade-line rhetoric and rejects him. (Chapters 38–39)

Abandonment and a Second Scheme

When Yumpa admits failure, Yuchan dismisses him as useless despite his pleading. Yumpa later receives another chance by working with Ha Ilming and cadets whom Yuchan intends to use for a yellow tag. After Ko Wanghur exposes the larger manipulation, Gallen and the former twelfth group turn on Yumpa. He tries to recover through promises of two tags, but cannot make commitments Yuchan has not authorized. (Chapters 39, 73–74)

Faced with Yeowun again, Yumpa discards his sword and kneels rather than fight. His appeal to the mercy expected of an heir is another calculation: he smiles while facing the ground because he believes etiquette will protect him. The attempt fails to restore his position, and Yeowun's side captures him for a counter-deception. (Chapter 74)

The “Yumpa Trick”

The figure who later carries defeated cadets into Yuchan's camp is not Yumpa. Yeowun covers his face and uses Nano to mimic Yumpa's voice, allowing him to approach and strike Yuchan from behind. The real Yumpa has already been neutralized. This distinction matters because the apparent betrayal and successful infiltration belong to Yeowun's plan, not to a late change of loyalty by Yumpa. The humiliation becomes a lasting reference point. Yuchan treats later approaches as possible repetitions of the “Yumpa trick,” making the failed spy useful to Yeowun only as an identity and warning. Yumpa's story ends without evidence that Yuchan restores him to favor. (Chapter 80)

Appearance and personality

No stable physical description is given. Yumpa presents himself with easy manners, a grin, and apparently candid information. He is clever enough to infer the third test's structure and build a plausible recruitment pitch, but not disciplined enough to hide all verbal traces of his patron.

His loyalty is driven by dependence on Yuchan's approval rather than principle. When schemes fail, he pleads, bargains, surrenders, and invokes etiquette to survive. That adaptability preserves him in the short term but earns trust from neither faction.

Martial arts and abilities

Moon Energy Blade Foundations

Yumpa trains in the Moon Energy Blade Clan and begins his duel by charging with speed and power that Yeowun recognizes as experienced. He gathers internal energy at the wrist and attempts to spin into a second formation after the opening movement. (Chapter 37)

The technique never fully unfolds. Yeowun catches the wrist, controls the stored energy line, and ends the duel in one throw. Later, Yumpa throws down his sword rather than repeat a fight whose outcome he understands. The corpus therefore supports competent blade foundations, not mastery of a named complete formation. Test Intelligence and Social Deception

Yumpa correctly deduces that the third test will provide a high-grade martial art requiring seven people to complete a formation. He uses real information to make his false recruitment credible and tailors the offer around Yeowun's need for members. (Chapters 38, 41)

His deception fails under close observation. Nano detects facial changes, while Yeowun independently recognizes phrases associated with Yuchan and the suspicious omission of the Blade Clan from Yumpa's supposed prior approaches. His method works best on cadets who lack independent information; it does not withstand a target actively testing the story. (Chapter 39)
