Hwang Bo-neung
Hwang Bo-neung is the head of the Hwang Bo Clan, a Yulin leader who fights through the northern spirit-beast expedition and dies in the North Sea.
Biography
North Sea Expedition
Hwang Bo-neung leads the Hwang Bo Clan and joins Moyong Kang's Yulin contingent traveling to aid the North Sea Ice Palace. He first encounters Chun Yeowun as reports arrive of a martial artist running over water, a feat outside the force's normal expectations. (Chapter 411)
When Yeowun moves to punish Commander Kang Soah, Hwang intercepts the White Dragon Blade with both palms. The impact tears his hands, dents the ship beneath his feet, and drives invasive energy into his body. He nevertheless refuses to release the weapon because Kang commands the relief force. Yeowun increases the pressure until Hwang collapses through the deck, then kills Kang despite the intervention. (Chapters 412–413)
Dragon Turtle Assault
Hwang survives the later collapse around the Dragon Turtle and rejoins the remaining warriors. Fire arrows initially fail against the beast's scales, but he notices the first arrow lodged in a vulnerable area and alerts Moyong. The two leaders accept a plan that may require their deaths, coat greatswords in oil, ignite them, and charge the dragon's neck while allies absorb the lightning intended to stop them. Their combined strikes help bring the beast down. Exhausted, Hwang sits near the battlefield after the apparent victory. A delayed ray of intense lightning crosses his position and kills him before he can recover.
