Borrowed Hunter Daggers

Borrowed Hunter Daggers are the paired light blades Kai selects from Altered Hunter equipment for an assessment in Ruin City. They suit his speed and let him demonstrate weapon skill without exposing his werewolf nature. They are not established as his permanent property, and they are distinct from his mother's knife and from the rounded training knives he acquires for Marie. (Chapters 189, 348, 1211)

History

Borrowed blades for a concealed identity

Kai, Gary Dem, and Austin pose as Hunter apprentices and are required to prove themselves against five-star Hunter Pluto. The attending Hunters lend them weapons for the test. Kai first considers a basic sword, then chooses two daggers because their low weight complements the speed of his shapeshifter and wolf forms. His selection is tactical: he needs a credible Hunter fighting style while concealing that his physical performance comes from werewolf abilities. (Chapter 1211)

Kai attacks Pluto directly with a rapid series of alternating blows, using speed to numb the Hunter's forearms through repeated weapon clashes. Angered by Pluto humiliating Gary, Kai increases the force until he knocks his opponent down and holds both dagger points at his throat. He then stops voluntarily, pulls the blades away, and puts them away. The corpus does not show him claiming the borrowed pair, using it after the assessment, or transferring it to another person. (Chapters 1216–1217)

Abilities and properties

  • The pair is light enough for fast, repeated close-range attacks from changing angles. Kai chooses it to capitalize on speed rather than reach or raw weapon mass. (Chapters 1211, 1216)
  • Repeated clashes transmit enough impact to numb Pluto's forearms, but the force comes from Kai's speed and gradually increased strength; no autonomous enhancement is attributed to the blades. (Chapter 1216)
  • The daggers can threaten at the throat and support a dual-wielding stance, but require Kai to enter sword range and do not protect him at distance. (Chapters 1216–1217)
  • Their maker, tier, crystals, special traits, and later location are not stated. Nothing in the assessment establishes supernatural properties specific to the pair. (Chapters 1211–1217)
  • Kai's mother's knife, recovered in Chapter 348, is a separate sentimental blade. Marie's two four-inch rounded knives are also separate weapons placed in her custody in Chapter 189. Neither should be merged into this borrowed pair.
