Rike
Rike is a young Red Wing Kingdom knight assigned to escort Hero and councilman Bluebird while investigating disappearances near a remote village. The mission forces his hopeful assumptions about the villagers into a containment fight against a vampire-like infection.
Biography
From hopeful escort to survivor of the infected village
Rike briefs Bluebird on the missing adventurers and Knight Captain, believing the kingdom still depends on its established Heroes. At the apparently deserted village, he initially hopes the residents are hiding and opens a shelter too quickly, forcing Bluebird to pull him away from an infected attack. Rike accepts the correction and stays behind when Bluebird checks a neighboring settlement, despite fearing that the infected or their creator will return. His concern about nightfall helps keep the group focused on the risk that nearly a hundred enhanced villagers could escape. (Chapters 1642–1645)
When restraint attempts fail, Rike fights beside Bluebird and the other knight, using Qi-infused injuries to slow regeneration while trying to avoid unnecessary deaths. He survives the nighttime swarm with help from Bluebird and Jack, and he helps keep two infected villagers alive by repeatedly disabling their limbs for later investigation. The result leaves him alive and more experienced, though still dependent on the Heroes against opponents far beyond an ordinary knight. (Chapters 1648–1651)
Appearance and personality
Rike is a young armored knight; the corpus gives no more detailed physical description. He is dutiful, respectful of the Heroes, and eager to preserve hope, but his optimism can become carelessness. He is openly anxious rather than falsely fearless, and he continues performing his assignment after acknowledging that fear. (Chapters 1642–1645)
Powers and abilities
Rike is trained in sword fighting, formation work, and Qi. He can evade and counter an infected villager at close range and coordinate Qi-infused cuts that slow the creatures' otherwise rapid regeneration. With another knight, he eventually restrains two infected people by repeatedly disabling all four limbs. His Qi does not fully stop healing, ordinary rope cannot hold the infected, and he lacks Bluebird's ranged Qi, speed, and precision; Bluebird must repeatedly save him from bites and overwhelming numbers. (Chapters 1643, 1648–1651)
