Killer
Killer, whose real name is Kain, is a Tier-4 school fighter recruited for the Phantom Brawl. He cultivates a murderous nickname around his knife tricks, but encounters with Austin, NIRV, and the Scavengers expose how little that pose resembles lethal gang conflict and ultimately lead him to leave the city with his father.
Biography
From manufactured menace to flight from the Scavengers
Kain calls himself Killer because skill with weapons gives the nickname enough credibility to frighten other students. Backed by a small gang led by Herbert, he expects school victories to earn him a place in the Phantom Brawl. He challenges the masked Austin and draws a knife after his companions fall, but Austin recognizes that the spinning display belongs to someone without genuine life-or-death experience. One punch shatters Killer's confidence and teeth; under pressure, he gives Austin his own place in an underground match and becomes the route by which the outsider enters the Scavengers' event. (Chapters 700–709)
Killer remains at the Phantom Brawl as Austin, Vlad, Vere, and the Scavengers become entangled with NIRV's Retriever force. Although frightened and injured, he recognizes the unfairness of the coordinated attack on Austin and later obeys Austin's order to carry Vlad out of the arena. His cooperation is motivated largely by fear, but it puts him on the Howlers' evacuation vehicle and prevents him from simply returning to the gang network that brought him there. (Chapters 731–751)
Outside the arena, Killer discovers that one of the rescued factory workers is his father, Earny. The two have seen little of each other because Earny lives at the factory while Killer maintains a false image of being a good son during visits. Faced with a direct choice, Kain leaves with him rather than return to the Scavengers, whose retaliation would endanger both of them. After reaching Slough, father and son decide to remain: Kain gives up distant school companions and the prospect of low-level gang advancement for safety and a new home. (Chapters 751–756)
Appearance and personality
Killer is a school-aged boy associated with a group marked by multicolored hair and piercings. After Austin defeats him, his mouth and face remain badly swollen and he loses his two front teeth. The corpus does not give a more precise individual description. (Chapters 700–708)
He builds confidence through reputation, intimidation, and performance rather than tested resolve. Defeat makes him extremely fearful of Austin, yet he is perceptive enough to recognize coordinated unfairness and adaptable enough to abandon a collapsing gang path. His concern for Earny reveals a family loyalty hidden beneath the persona.
Powers and abilities
Killer is an ordinary human with no demonstrated Altered transformation, werewolf power, Qi, or supernatural ability.
Knife handling and school fighting
Killer can spin a knife around his fingers, catch it by the handle, and has received fighting instruction from Herbert. Those skills are sufficient to build a reputation among school gangs, but the flourish leaves the blade loosely held and exposes his inexperience. Austin catches the edge barehanded, prevents Killer from withdrawing it, and defeats him with one punch. No later scene shows Killer overcoming that limitation or adopting a new fighting style. (Chapters 700–709)
Relationships
Earny
Earny is Killer's father. Their work and gang lives keep them apart, and Kain conceals his activities, but their reunion gives him a reason to leave the Scavengers and settle in Slough.
Austin
Austin destroys Killer's violent reputation, coerces him into providing access to the Phantom Brawl, and later orders him to help evacuate Vlad. Fear defines most of their contact, though following Austin's directions also helps Kain escape the city.
Herbert
Herbert trains Killer as a prospective Phantom Brawl entrant and regards him as a valuable recruit. Their shared gang path ends when the Scavengers and NIRV turn the event into a conflict neither can safely remain within.
Items
Killer carries an ordinary knife and uses a motorbike, but neither is established as a finalized notable item or as a unique personal artifact. He has no finalized notable item in the supplied inventory.
