Yip
Yip is a ninth-family vampire recruit who befriends Ronkin and trains under the apparently ordinary guard Quinn before their platoon enters a deliberately costly war. He becomes one of the witnesses who recognise Quinn's hidden strength while helping Ronkin keep their connection secret. (Chapters 2077–2095)
Biography
Training for a disposable deployment
Yip enters the family-segregated platoon curious about Quinn and closest to Ronkin. During the five-day trip, he volunteers to spar after watching Quinn teach combat, attacking until exhausted without landing a blow. Because Quinn matches Yip's strength and speed rather than overpowering him, the failure forces Yip to recognise the value of technique and varied attacks before reaching the battlefield. (Chapters 2077–2081)
Witnessing Quinn's identity
On deployment Yip shares the platoon's fear after its green blood has already been used and watches dangers he cannot always perceive. Repeated evidence convinces him that Quinn is far stronger than a guard, and when Quinn's identity is broadcast Yip helps silence Ronkin before their familiarity exposes them. Quinn's released aura later forces Yip to his knees and supports the claim that he was the Vampire King. The final scene leaves Yip alive but affected by the surrounding memory disturbance; the corpus does not establish how much he later remembers. (Chapters 2082–2095)
Appearance and personality
Yip is an adult male vampire; no stable description of his hair, eyes, or clothing is supplied. He is curious, sociable, and willing to volunteer for difficult training, while his jokes about Ronkin being old enough to be a father show an easy friendship. In combat he can miss threats beyond his experience, but he quickly recognises evidence and helps protect the group's secret. (Chapters 2077–2095)
Powers and abilities
Vampire physiology and combat training
Yip has standard vampire strength, speed, senses, healing, blood aura, and access to green blood used by the platoon for temporary support. Quinn teaches him to protect vital areas, vary attacks that are failing, and build stamina. Yip improves through repeated sessions, but the corpus does not name a family ability, advanced blood technique, or numerical rank for him. (Chapters 2080–2083)
His limitations are clear in the spar: ordinary rapid punches cannot touch a technically superior opponent even when that opponent matches his physical level. Quinn's king-level aura later overwhelms him at range. No later transformation, soul weapon, Qi stage, or post-war mastery is demonstrated. (Chapters 2080 and 2095)
Relationships
- Ronkin: Ronkin is Yip's closest platoon companion. Yip watches his training, teases him, stays beside him in the campaign, and helps keep his bond with Quinn from being revealed. (Chapters 2077–2095)
- Quinn: Yip first sees Quinn as an unusual guard, volunteers for his instruction, and gradually concludes that his skill and strength conceal a far greater identity. (Chapters 2077–2095)
- Jeouk: Yip serves under Jeouk and helps him and Ronkin interpret Quinn's intervention during the war. (Chapters 2090–2095)
