Stark

Stark is the Penswi grand-event champion whose natural speed makes him a planetary celebrity before Quinn gives him his first defeat. Rather than resent the result, Stark follows Quinn to improve and becomes the Penswi representative in the alliance against Jack and Jim. Borrowing Quinn's Celestial Fang armour lets him rescue Sil, force Jack to remove the enhanced Dalki's abilities, and kill Jack, but the armour's forced Nitro Accelerate consumes Stark's life. (Chapters 2131–2153, 2200, 2218–2243, and 2266–2288)

Biography

Champion of the Penswi

Before appearing directly, Stark is the standard by which Penswi speed and body shape are judged. His image appears in training games, and his undefeated record makes the Disruptors perennial winners of the planetary grand event. Stark enjoys competition more than protecting that record: when unusual alien entrants appear, he deliberately leaves himself open to a genuine speed contest and hopes they can push him beyond the pace no Penswi has matched. (Chapters 2131–2149)

Quinn first tries to catch Stark through natural speed and Qi enhancement, while Stark responds by improving in the middle of the chase. Quinn ultimately uses the Celestial Fang set's Nitro Accelerate to take the tag and wins. Stark is physically pained by trying to close the gap, but his final response is a smile: the loss proves that speed has a higher limit and gives him a reason to train. That reaction turns public defeat into the beginning of his development rather than an injury to his status. (Chapters 2149–2151)

Representative of a threatened planet

Quinn uses the grand-event audience to warn the Penswi rulers about the Marpo Cruise. Stark agrees to accompany him both because the danger concerns his people and because Quinn can teach him to become faster. The Penswi leadership sends only willing elite fighters rather than drafting the population, while Stark becomes the communications link and public representative travelling with Quinn's group. (Chapters 2151–2153 and 2187)

The journey exposes Stark to a conflict larger than sport. He asks why Quinn's party opposes people from their own planet, trains with the new alliance, and accepts a specific rescue duty when Quinn must remain behind to forge equipment. Quinn loans Stark the Celestial Fang set because the naturally fastest fighter can make the best use of it and orders him to save Sil. Stark accepts the trust with gratitude, understanding that the armour is a loan rather than a prize from the grand event. (Chapters 2153 and 2200–2209)

Rescue of Sil and defence of the survivors

Inside Jack's ship, Layla creates an opening by threatening the captive Sil, then calls on Stark to carry him past H. Stark dodges H's first blow, activates Nitro Accelerate, and escapes despite H's own super speed and lightning. He brings Sil to a devastated allied planet, where the sight of dead Penswi and other allies turns the abstract war into personal guilt over those Stark was not there to save. (Chapters 2215–2220)

Stark nevertheless keeps the unconscious Sil hidden, searches for survivors, and later draws Dalki and researchers away from the shelter. His speed prevents the attackers from touching him, but his sharpened strikes barely penetrate Dalki scales, and a mud ability traps his feet until Sil wakes and kills the pursuers. The episode gives Stark direct evidence of both his limits and the importance of the person he rescued. (Chapters 2220–2243)

The attack on Jack and final sacrifice

After delivering Sil to the battlefield against H, Stark decides that winning requires more than trusting Sil to overcome a personal enemy. He returns alone to the Marpo Cruise to reach Jack and force him to remove the transferred Dalki powers. Stark infiltrates the damaged ship, carries Jack away from a five-spike guard, and tries to coerce him in an isolated artificial desert, but Jack's armour produces a defensive barrier that reflects the force of Stark's attacks into his own hands. (Chapters 2266 and 2269–2272)

Stark continues because he understands that H's powers may decide the war and because dead Penswi can no longer be protected by a retreat. Repeated Nitro Accelerate strikes crush his hands without breaking the barrier. He then forces the active skill beyond its normal cycle; because his blood is not celestial, the armour substitutes his ordinary blood and life force, producing bursts so fast that even Stark's enhanced perception cannot track them. One strike shatters the barrier and tears off his own arm. (Chapters 2272–2275)

Stark wounds Jack until he removes the distributed powers, preventing H's death-triggered explosion. He then kills Jack rather than accept a promise that the abilities will never be restored. Blood loss, the missing arm, and the forced skill leave Stark blind and unable to continue; he reaches the control room, sits down, and dies after wishing the others luck. The alliance recovers his body for burial, Sil credits him with saving everyone on the battlefield, and Minny returns the borrowed Celestial Fang set to Quinn. (Chapters 2279–2280, 2288, and 2315)

Appearance and personality

Stark is a purple Penswi with a muscular build, unusually long limbs, a handsome face, and the “perfect” body proportions associated with the planet's fastest athlete. Penswi hands narrow into sharp points suitable for piercing attacks. Stark is confident and fond of calling himself the fastest, but he is not defined by vanity: he welcomes an opponent who can improve him, smiles after his first defeat, and turns public admiration into a responsibility to protect the people who gave him that life. He retains dry humour while dying, joking that losing an arm makes him lighter, yet his final decisions are deliberate rather than unaware of the cost. (Chapters 2131, 2146–2151, 2243, 2272–2280)

Powers and abilities

Penswi speed and perception

Stark's speed is a natural Penswi physiological trait rather than a named human ability. His long, muscular limbs support acceleration and agility, while Penswi eyes, reflexes, and thought processing let him perceive and steer at velocities that would disorient most species. He can zigzag without losing pace, dodge attacks at close range, carry Sil while outrunning H, and cross ship corridors before observers can turn. (Chapters 2131, 2146–2151, 2218, and 2266–2269)

Natural speed is not sufficient against every problem. Mud or altered terrain can hold his feet, Dalki scales resist his pointed strikes, and he lacks vampire-like regeneration. A Penswi limb stump seals to prevent continuing blood loss, but only after the armour's forced drain stops; this is wound closure, not regrowth. Speed also converts his body into a weapon, so hitting a defence that will not yield shatters his own hands and transmits damage through the rest of him. (Chapters 2243, 2272–2275, and 2280)

Piercing speed combat

Stark brings the fingers together into a sharp point and adds running velocity to create drill-like thrusts. Against ordinary humans the strike can pass through the head, while repeated passes can eventually pierce lower-spike Dalki. He can also spin with both arms extended to bore through reinforced ship doors. The method depends on momentum and the target yielding; Jack's energy barrier reflects the collision, ruining Stark's hands even when the barrier itself ripples. (Chapters 2243, 2266, 2269, and 2272–2275)

Celestial Fang armour and Nitro Accelerate

Quinn loans Stark the Celestial Fang set after seeing that the armour's speed amplification complements Penswi physiology. Its passive enhancement increases strength, durability, and speed enough for Stark to wound Dalki and carry another person without losing his role as the fastest fighter. The active Nitro Accelerate produces a much larger temporary burst and has a recovery interval; with it, Stark leaves H behind during Sil's rescue and becomes too fast for Jack's reinforcements to target. (Chapters 2200, 2218, 2243, and 2272–2274)

The armour also permits a forced activation. In Stark's case it cannot find celestial blood and substitutes his own life force, alternating between debilitating drain and explosive surges. The boost strips scales from nearby Dalki merely through displaced force and lets one attack erase Jack's barrier, but Stark cannot fully perceive or control the highest burst and loses an arm to the collision. Continued use stops the stump from sealing, exhausts his legs, damages his sight, and ultimately kills him. The armour is recovered after his death and returned to Quinn, so Stark's latest state includes neither life nor possession of the set. (Chapters 2274–2280 and 2315)

Relationships

  • Quinn: Quinn gives Stark his first defeat and, more importantly, a higher standard to pursue. Stark joins his alliance, accepts the Celestial Fang loan, and spends his life fulfilling the responsibility Quinn places on his speed. (Chapters 2149–2153, 2200, and 2272–2280)
  • Sil: Stark carries Sil away from H, protects him while he recovers, and returns him to the decisive battlefield. Sil later recognises that Stark's attack on Jack prevented mass death and promises to protect the Penswi in return. (Chapters 2218–2243, 2266, and 2288)
  • Jack: Stark sees Jack as the control point behind H's abilities and refuses to be diverted by promises or personal injury. He forces Jack to remove the powers and kills him to prevent their restoration. (Chapters 2266 and 2269–2280)
  • H: Stark proves faster than H during the rescue and later defeats him indirectly. By coercing Jack at the moment H dies, Stark removes the self-destruction ability that would otherwise have killed Sil and everyone nearby. (Chapters 2218–2223 and 2279–2280)
  • Minny: Minny fights beside Stark's allies, mourns him when she finds his body, stores it for burial, and returns the borrowed armour to Quinn. (Chapters 2288 and 2315)
