Nog

Nog is a manager and security fighter aboard the Marpo Cruise who guides Quinn and Sil after their return to space. When raiders devastate the ship, his duty to protect its passengers leads him to join Captain Doguth and the Mermerial princesses' campaign rather than remain behind. (Chapters 1813–1836 and 1865–1867)

Biography

Guiding the Marpo Cruise

Nog meets Quinn and Sil as a staff guide, then reveals his manager's badge when they ask how the cruise operates. He explains that it carries wealthy travellers and interplanetary cargo, that its staff are recruited as elite fighters, and that customer privacy limits what he will disclose about Doguth. His professionalism helps the newcomers understand the ship but also prevents them from learning everything they want about the surviving Dalki captain. (Chapter 1813)

Nog quietly watches when Sil causes disturbances and recognises that the power involved could affect the whole vessel. He does not confront the pair recklessly; instead he monitors them while continuing his management duties, balancing suspicion against the cruise's promise to protect paying guests. (Chapters 1815–1817)

Defending the ship

When a coordinated force attacks, Nog abandons the option of seeking the control room because civilians are dying in front of him. He catches an energy blade in his bare hand, snaps it, and defeats its wielder, declaring that the staff will protect everyone aboard. He then fights through a group of attackers before a trident user's water attack leaves him badly injured. (Chapters 1819–1820)

Nog stays upright so the other defenders will not see weakness and prepares to help again once he recovers. Doguth's eventual intervention prevents the attackers from finishing the ship, but the destruction turns Nog's workplace loyalty into a desire for direct action against those responsible. (Chapters 1820–1821)

Joining the Mermerial mission

Nog and Doguth board Sil's ship when Quinn agrees to aid Wince and Ceril. Nog helps assess the guarded planet, questions plans that cannot reach protected targets, and accompanies Quinn into an evacuated city while the others move toward the hydro station. His participation supplies local combat support without displacing the princesses' goals. (Chapters 1823 and 1825–1828)

After the regime falls, Nog remains with Doguth while the sisters settle their future. The pair then prepare to return to the damaged cruise ship, and Nog is alive at this last appearance. The corpus gives no later account of the Marpo Cruise, his species, or his eventual career. (Chapters 1836 and 1865–1867)

Appearance and personality

Nog is nonhuman enough to think of Quinn and Sil as “fleshy creatures,” but the corpus never identifies his species, skin, face, height, or clothing beyond a staff badge marked with his name and manager title. He jokingly flexes biceps that appear to have little visible muscle. (Chapter 1813)

He is discreet, observant, proud of his workplace, and protective of customers. Nog refuses to violate guest privacy even after accepting payment for information, and he chooses immediate rescue over contacting distant help during the attack. His loyalty later expands from the ship to Doguth and the group seeking justice. (Chapters 1813 and 1817–1823)

Powers and abilities

Alien strength, speed, and durability

Nog moves quickly and silently enough to cross a restaurant without Quinn's group noticing the transition. In battle he grips an energy blade despite a bleeding hand, breaks it, punches its wielder through a wall, and defeats multiple armoured attackers. These feats establish powerful alien physiology but no named ability or energy system. (Chapter 1813; Chapters 1819–1820)

He is not invulnerable. A trident-driven triple water jet throws him through the bar and leaves him barely able to stand, requiring time to recover. The corpus does not establish regeneration, elemental resistance, a transformed form, or later improvement. (Chapters 1820–1821)

Management and security training

Nog knows the cruise's routes, facilities, cargo business, privacy rules, and emergency organisation. He can guide unfamiliar passengers, identify threats capable of damaging the entire ship, and coordinate with Doguth and other staff. These are professional skills rather than supernatural powers. (Chapters 1813–1817 and 1823)

Relationships

  • Doguth: Doguth is Nog's captain and combat partner. Nog protects their ship, travels with him to the Mermerial planet, and returns with him after the mission.
  • Quinn: Nog first guides and monitors Quinn, then fights beside him in the liberation mission.
  • Sil: Nog respects Sil as a passenger while recognising the danger of his powers, and later boards his ship despite Sil's initial distrust.
  • Wince and Ceril: Their appeal gives Nog and Doguth a route to retaliate against the force that attacked the cruise.

Items

No manifest-configured inventory item is assigned to Nog. His manager badge and security equipment are ordinary workplace possessions rather than catalogue items.
