Nock
Nock is an Amra tower captain, Geo's childhood friend, and one of the three leaders who guide their people after Quinn defeats Athos. His pride in the tower initially separates him from Geo's community, but their reunion draws him into Quinn's rebellion and eventually into the war against Peter, where he dies fighting beside his oldest friend. (Chapters 1727–1733, 1799–1809, 2154–2197, and 2227–2252)
Biography
The tower captain returns home
Nock and Geo take Athos's tower test together, but only Nock succeeds and joins the tower guard while Geo returns to their neighbourhood. By the time Nock visits again he is a tower captain, and his rank has made him proud and distant. He nevertheless calls Geo the friend without whom he would never have reached that position, showing that the bond survives their different paths. (Chapters 1727–1729)
When Quinn accidentally knocks him down, Nock treats the blow as an affront to his office and attacks. His four-armed rush and attempts to grapple Quinn demonstrate both his confidence and the Amra's natural resilience, but Quinn's Qi-infused hammer strike leaves him internally injured. Nock's humiliation gives way to gratitude after Quinn helps the neighbourhood and gives its inhabitants a way to improve their lives; Nock stops the departing group, kneels, and thanks them before joining Geo and Dober on their journey. (Chapters 1731 and 1733)
Rebelling against Athos
Nock follows the group upward through the tower despite doubts about their ability to climb. Exposure to the tower's energy allows him and Dober to adapt unusually quickly to the higher floors' conditions, but Athos manipulates the floors and traps the Amra while Quinn and Sil confront him. Once free, Nock urges escape, reflecting that his allegiance to the tower has been displaced by concern for his companions. (Chapters 1751 and 1757–1771)
During the battle against Athos's forces, Nock, Geo, and Dober refuse to remain spectators. They throw green tower rock to disrupt the fighting, each using all four arms to keep up the barrage; Geo has to push Nock clear of a sword strike. Their intervention is improvised rather than decisive, but it establishes their willingness to oppose their former god despite the danger. (Chapters 1799–1801)
After Athos falls, Quinn places celestial energy into Nock, Geo, and Dober. The gift makes them stronger and marks them as Quinn's blessed followers, but it also links their lives to his: Quinn warns that his death would cause theirs. Nock returns to a society improved by Athos's removal and becomes one of its three leaders, turning the tower captain who once defended rank into a guardian of the broader Amra population. (Chapters 1806–1809 and 2154)
Leadership in the tower war
When outside forces enter the Amra towers, Nock stays with the Talen family while Geo supports the Blades and Dober directs affairs outside. Nock helps restrain Shiro during a confrontation and later works beside Geo near the tower as one of the few Amra strong enough to confront enemy leaders. His celestial-enhanced blows can launch opponents, but the fighting also shows that the blessing does not make him invulnerable. (Chapters 2177, 2197, and 2210–2212)
Nock and Geo then join demon-tier shadow beasts against Peter. Their coordinated attacks and the beasts' vines briefly contain the wight, yet Peter repeatedly throws Nock aside. Nock continues because the battlefield needs its strongest Amra mobile against the enemy's leaders, placing his public duty above the evidence that Peter outclasses him. (Chapters 2224 and 2227)
In their final exchange, Nock and Geo batter Peter without breathing so that he cannot recover, but fatigue and pain slow Nock first. When he lifts his head for air, Peter drives a newly formed head-tail attack through his chest. Nock tells Geo that his friend has won their lifelong rivalry before dying; Geo secretly recovers his body so the sight will not demoralise the Amra still fighting. (Chapters 2248 and 2252)
Appearance and personality
Nock is a four-armed Amra with the species' dense, resilient body and pink blood. The corpus does not supply an individual height, colouring, clothing description, or facial features that reliably distinguish him from other Amra. (Chapter 1731)
He is proud of becoming a tower captain and reacts angrily when that status is challenged, but he can admit a debt and reverse course when Quinn helps his people. Competitive affection defines his friendship with Geo: even as leaders they call each other rivals, and Nock's last words resolve that competition in Geo's favour rather than expressing hatred toward Peter. (Chapters 1729–1733, 2210, and 2248)
Powers and abilities
Amra physiology and close combat
Nock fights with four arms, using simultaneous punches and grapples to pressure an opponent. His body is tough enough to skid across an arena, stop himself with all four arms, and remain standing after Quinn's Qi-infused strike, although the impact still causes internal injury. The Amra's dense bones later resist Peter's cutting head-tail better than ordinary tissue, but neither durability nor numbers can prevent a sufficiently powerful piercing attack. (Chapter 1731; Chapter 2248)
Nock relies on force, repeated punches, and thrown stone rather than a named technique. In the tower battle he and Geo maintain a rapid barrage against Peter by refusing to breathe, but acid build-up and exhausted limbs create a hard endurance limit; taking a breath gives Peter the opening that kills him. No healing, ranged energy projection, or independent Qi practice is established for Nock. (Chapters 1801, 2227, and 2248)
Quinn's celestial blessing
Quinn grants Nock celestial energy after Athos's defeat. The blessing raises him among the Amra's strongest leaders and can visibly empower his hands, allowing him to strike high-level intruders and participate in battles beyond an ordinary tower guard's scale. The corpus does not quantify the increase or give Nock a named celestial skill. (Chapters 1806–1809, 2177, and 2212)
The power has a disclosed systemic cost: Nock, Geo, and Dober are linked to Quinn, and Quinn says they will die if he dies. Peter's superior strength and evolving head-tail attacks also demonstrate that the blessing can be overcome through greater power and lethality. Nock dies before the corpus establishes any further progression or transfer of his celestial energy. (Chapter 1809; Chapters 2227 and 2248)
Relationships
- Geo: Geo is Nock's best friend and rival. Their tower results divide their paths, but Nock credits Geo for his success, follows him against Athos, co-leads the Amra with him, and dies at his side.
- Quinn: Nock first attacks Quinn over an accidental slight, then thanks him for helping the neighbourhood. Quinn's victory changes Amra society and his celestial blessing makes Nock one of its principal defenders.
- Dober: Dober travels and rebels alongside Nock and Geo, then shares leadership of the Amra. The elder mourns that Nock died before him.
- Peter: Nock opposes Peter during the tower war. Their conflict exposes the limits of Nock's endurance and celestial enhancement, and Peter kills him with a head-tail strike through the chest.
- Athos: Nock rises through Athos's tower system before helping Quinn overthrow it, shifting his loyalty from the institution to the Amra people.
Items
No manifest-configured inventory item is assigned to Nock. The green rocks he throws are improvised tower material rather than personal equipment.
