Moe

Moe is a vampire travelling with an expedition contingent drawn largely from the fourth family's inner castle area when it takes Quinn to a Nest Crystal. Initially sceptical that the new king retains his own strength, Moe survives battles against copying beasts and helps defend the grounded ship until his blood reserve is exhausted. Biography

Doubting the king on the Nest Crystal expedition

Moe travels with vampires drawn largely from the fourth family's inner-castle area. Hearing rumours that Quinn's victory depended on power borrowed from Arthur and on Absolute Blood Control too strenuous to use freely, he openly questions how strong the king remains and worries that Norvic's political hostility might provoke him. Those doubts are tied to the expedition's previous failure: the group has already faced beasts it could see but not reach safely, and Moe does not believe one powerful individual necessarily supplies the variety they need. (Chapter 1499)

In the swamp, Moe interprets Quinn's deliberate equipment testing as weakness and continues doubting him even after the party meets beasts that create exact doppelgangers. Moe fights his own copy until the trained group switches opponents, allowing Joy to exploit what they have disclosed about one another's weaknesses. He still assumes Quinn was lucky to defeat his copy, but that scepticism changes to fear when multiple beasts take the king's form and nearly kill the Earl. Quinn's shadow evacuation makes the scale of his strength undeniable while also validating Moe's concern that copies of it are catastrophic. (Chapters 1500–1503)

Defending the ship without renewable blood

Inside the shadow space, Moe argues that the expedition should have sought another Nest Crystal rather than create dozens of king-strength copies. After Quinn absorbs the crystal and a beast wave attacks the ship, Moe warns the others, obeys the order to defend, and cuts through many beasts with blood swipes. He also finds that the thrusters are damaged, helping establish that the party must hold its position until reinforcements arrive. (Chapter 1504)

The extended defence exposes a vampire-specific limit: beasts cannot provide consumable blood, so repeated blood powers drain reserves that cannot be restored from defeated enemies. By Chapter 1528 Moe has emptied his flask and tells Joy that the group must continue using physical strength. He remains alive at that point, but the corpus does not individually confirm his evacuation, later family role, or ultimate fate. (Chapter 1528)

Appearance and personality

The corpus identifies Moe as a vampire but gives no stable description of his hair, eyes, build, clothing, or age. He is sceptical, blunt, and inclined to interpret ambiguous evidence against Quinn, which irritates the king's defenders. His pessimism is not simple disloyalty: he remains in formation, follows defensive orders, recognises threats early, and continues fighting after the expedition becomes more dangerous than expected. Powers and abilities

Vampire physiology and blood powers

Moe has the physical strength and endurance expected of an expedition-selected vampire and can fight a doppelganger matching his own body. He uses repeated blood swipes to cut through ordinary beasts around the ship. The corpus does not show a unique family ability, named soul weapon, blood-control mastery, or quantified physical level, so those powers are not attributed to him. (Chapters 1501–1504)

Blood reserve and combat limits

Moe's blood attacks consume a finite reserve. He carries blood in a flask and eventually uses all of it; because vampire fighters cannot replenish themselves with beast blood, he must abandon blood powers and rely on physical strength while waiting for reinforcements. Relationships

• Quinn: Moe begins the expedition questioning whether Quinn's strength is borrowed. He gradually witnesses enough power to fear the king's copies, then obeys orders and defends Quinn and the ship during the Nest Crystal aftermath. (Chapters 1499–1504)
• Joy: Joy shares Moe's initial doubts and later admits fear to him. During the doppelganger fight she attacks Moe's copy, and during the beast siege he tells her that his blood supply is gone and they must hold out physically. (Chapters 1499–1503 and 1528)
• Rick: Rick repeatedly defends Quinn against Moe's scepticism, producing a running disagreement over whether the king is weak, fortunate, or dangerously strong. Both nevertheless fight in the same expedition force. (Chapters 1499–1504)
• Earl Ronsten: The Earl's near-fatal injury from Quinn's doppelganger convinces Moe that the copied king is beyond the expedition's fighters and strengthens his argument that the mission was too dangerous. (Chapters 1503–1504)
