Kong

Kong is a long-serving C-rank Crow faction member selected to lead a high-level beast hunt. His desire to prove that he deserves command turns a dangerous expedition into a conflict with Linda, ending with his defeat and unexplained death inside the cave. (Chapters 567–576)

Biography

Taking command of the beast hunt

Kong is nominated because he has held C rank longer than the other candidates. He uses the hunt budget to obtain maps, trackers, traps, and other standard supplies, showing that he can handle preparations. Once in the field, however, he dismisses unfamiliar advice and treats challenges to his judgment as insults. Quinn warns him that leadership makes him responsible for every death caused by a bad decision, but the warning does not change his conduct. (Chapters 567–570)

When the team finds a sleeping king-tier beast, Kong orders single teams to cover each exit. Linda overrides him to reduce casualties, which he interprets as proof that the faction sent her to babysit him. He interferes with her attack using mass-altered black balls, withdraws his men after she threatens to remove him from the faction, and finally throws a ball at Linda's back while she is fighting. Quinn catches it and returns it, knocking Kong unconscious against the cave wall. (Chapters 571–573)

Death in the cave

Linda refuses to abandon the unconscious Kong even though she condemns his actions. After the subsequent fighting, Quinn finds Kong dead and determines there is no chance to save him, but the scene does not establish who killed him or exactly when. His body is destroyed to conceal the supernatural events in the cave, while Linda later gives a false account that protects Quinn's identity. Blip, after learning what Kong did, believes that he might have killed Kong himself had Kong survived. (Chapters 573 and 576–578)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not provide a stable description of Kong's face, build, hair, or clothing. He is experienced enough to attain C rank and plan a hunt, but proud, resentful of supervision, and preoccupied with receiving credit. His attempt to strike Linda from behind turns professional rivalry into deliberate betrayal. (Chapters 567–572)

Powers and abilities

Mass alteration

Kong can spend MC cells to make an object lighter or heavier. He applies the change as small black balls leave his fingertips, launching them at high speed and increasing their mass so that their impact resembles a cannonball. Repeated throws can hold a king-tier beast in place, but they do not seriously injure it, require prepared ammunition, and can be reflected back. One returned ball is powerful enough to knock Kong unconscious. The corpus shows no later progression because he dies during the expedition. (Chapters 571–572)

The balls are made from costly intermediate beast crystals and supplied by a teammate. They are associated equipment rather than a separately configured inventory article. (Chapter 571)

Relationships

• Linda: Linda tries to protect Kong and the team, but Kong resents her authority, withdraws support, and attempts to hit her from behind. She nevertheless refuses to abandon him while he is unconscious. (Chapters 571–573)
• Quinn: Quinn warns Kong about a leader's responsibility and later stops his attack on Linda by returning Kong's own projectile. (Chapters 569 and 572)
• Blip: Blip approves Kong's appointment based on seniority, then condemns him after learning how he behaved. (Chapters 567 and 577)
