Hermes

Hermes is a senior Graylash commander who supports Owen through the Second Dalki War and the political crisis surrounding the Cursed faction. He commands a fleet of one hundred thousand personnel, suppresses damaging rumours after internal betrayal, and dies defending civilians from a four-spike Dalki. (Chapters 1071–1097, 1271–1469, and 1527)

Biography

Commanding the second fleet

Hermes leads the Graylash second fleet, whose large ship carries Graylash forces and military troops assigned by Oscar. When Dalki board it, incomplete intelligence frustrates him, but he gathers more than a thousand defenders and directs their lightning against the attackers once Quinn arrives. His choices keep the force organised despite uncertainty about enemy numbers and strength. (Chapters 1071 and 1085–1087)

The attack reveals traitors within the family and leaves Owen critically injured. Hermes immediately silences a subordinate who begins announcing the betrayal, reasoning that unverified accusations would destroy already fragile morale. He guards Owen's room, summons medical help, and later presents Quinn with two crystals in gratitude, placing continuity of command above his own need for answers. (Chapters 1089–1093)

Supporting Owen's rule

Hermes remains among Owen's senior advisers and accompanies him to alliance meetings. He reports public concern over whether Owen supports Quinn and the vampires, forcing the family leader to confront how his private loyalties are perceived. Hermes is also invited among the Graylash family's strongest representatives, though the corpus does not isolate a duel that proves his precise rank. (Chapters 1095–1097, 1405, and 1418)

He watches Owen and other leading fighters, advises during threats, and remains near his leader rather than seeking independent authority. His reports during Dalki movements help bring Owen back toward endangered shelters, preserving his role as the commander who turns battlefield information into action. (Chapters 1271, 1309, and 1438–1469)

Death during the invasion

Hermes travels with Grim during the later Dalki assault and tries to stop a long-limbed humanoid Dalki from massacring the surrounding people. The enemy has four spikes and an unusual reach; it overwhelms Hermes, and the encounter is explicitly described as the end of his life. No recovery or later manifestation of Hermes appears in the corpus. (Chapter 1527)

Appearance and personality

The corpus supplies no reliable description of Hermes's height, hair, eyes, age, uniform, or weapons. His title and posture identify him as a disciplined senior officer, but physical details cannot be inferred from other Graylash members. (Chapters 1071 and 1405)

Hermes is cautious, loyal, and attentive to morale. He can show frustration when intelligence is inadequate, yet he quickly redirects his soldiers, protects Owen's condition from destabilising rumours, and continues serving in both military and political crises. (Chapters 1085–1093 and 1405)

Powers and abilities

Lightning ability

Hermes uses the Graylash lightning ability with his troops to hold off Dalki boarders. He is treated as one of the family's strongest invitees, but the corpus does not isolate the shape, range, voltage, equipment interaction, or individual limit of his lightning. Group fire therefore cannot be used to assign every observed effect to Hermes alone. (Chapters 1087 and 1418)

The four-spike Dalki that kills him demonstrates the ability's practical ceiling in his final battle: Hermes cannot prevent the creature's unusually long limbs from reaching and killing large numbers of people. No soul weapon, Qi stage, healing ability, or later power progression is established for him. (Chapter 1527)

Command and crisis control

Hermes commands a ship containing one hundred thousand people, musters defenders during boarding, reports enemy movements, and manages sensitive information after betrayal. These are trained leadership skills rather than supernatural powers, and they remain his clearest individual contribution. (Chapters 1071, 1085–1093, and 1271)
